Just not been himself for weeks now...

Is it losing Anderson? The speculation of a move to the Prem?

It's frustrating... I want the old Howie back!

Needs Anderson because all our other central midfielders are crap. That simple. He has to play too deep because he doesn't trust Hassell/Togwell; didn't trust McCann either. And I don't blame him.

I suspect you're right, he needs to be bombing into the box and scoring goals again...

Those volleys (some of them at least :D ) on Soccer Night showed what he can do in the box.

spends most of his time having a go at other players nowadays... get on wit game Bri! en leave em be

thought he was out of order when he screamed his head off at Diego Leon int second half, poor lad aint done nowt wrong infact he won a free kick by show boatin..... was as good as a corner so what the problem!

But honestly this captaincy thing has got to Brian, he looks far to stressed these days and his game is starting to suffer....

the weight of running midfield and the captaincy weighing on his shoulders? perhaps he's doing a chris morgan and attempting to run the whole show.

Its since he was made captain

And Da Silva left. Too much responsibility carrying the midfield and no confidence in the strikers

I think the Strikers are fixed now, Leon looks to be a great addition - if we can just get Da Silva thats the midfield fixed

Maybe then he will get his form back

    Nothing..

...to do with teams knowing if they stop Howard they stop Barnsley then.

    Exactly.

Early in the season, teams gave him a lot more space. He also had Anderson next to him, which meant that the oppostition had to focus on 2 good midfielders.

Now, managers will be saying "Get on Howard early, don't let him play". Plus, as he is our main player, and Anderson is gone, teams will solely concentrate on stopping him.

    Simple

Da Silva has the intelligence to do his job and cover the defence, leaving other playersto shine, Howard especially.

Without Da Silva Howard has more responsibility, which he's arguably not good enough to handle (i.e., he needs to be either defensive minded, or attacking- which is his natural game, but not both).

Until we get a solid defensively minded midfielder, Howard will have to keep an eye on defensive duties, especially with the likes of Leon in the side. He won't like it, won't play as well, and certainly won't get forward nearly as much.

I Thought He Played Well Last Night

Set up the goal and they knew full well he's a danger man, with the amount of times he got brought down (must have been double figures).
