Nick Wroe, Dale Tonge are the latest mentioned, all this money spent on the accademy and it looks like players will be leaving on Frees? surley there is something wrong, cant blame them for wanting to move, just doesnt seem right?!?!?!

In the years the accademy has been up do you think it has justified the expence? have we produced enough quality players from it?

    That wasn't my argument

My argument was/is that Tonge is good enough.

and I hope not to misrepresent what he said and if I do I appologise and hope someone corrects me...

too many young fringe players at the club who have been hanging around too long without developing as required. Their chance may be passed but there is little that can be done when they are existing contracts

Some of our younger players need to be loaned out to the best level we can to see if they can develop further both in the interests of both the players and the club but it was difficult to find the right placings as clubs tended to want players who could come straight into the first team or summat along those lines.

No doubt the acadamy is maybe 100 to 200k more a year to run than a traditional youth set up but this is likely a risk worth taking on the off chance that we produce 1 reasonable player a year as the transfer costs of such a player would be comparable. the status is more likely to attract a better player than if we did not have it IMHO.

I have seen better things in Tonge than Wroe for example and I hope he can come back from Walsall and challenge for a place in our first team.

    They're going out on loan?

Where's this free transfer thing come from?

    exactly that

players like jarman , wroe , tongue will maybe turn into players of the calibre of luke beckett , jonny parkin et al , but as it stands they arent going to get into our team..

football is full of players who dont make it at a partuicular team when they are 19/20/21 but go on to better things later on...

its dropping on at the right time , getting a bit of luck and doing well once they get the chance int he team , for me the acadamy has to stay as if you get one player through every 2 years or so then its done its job.

    To be fair...

Going out on loan isnt the same as leaving. If they get experience instead of playing reserve team football then its a good thing

    I liked this bit:

"Best not to rush the lad", says Davey, Ritchie, Shepherd and any other person who ran the team that year.

I see Gord's signing hit the bar for Northern Ireland last night.
    Good lad.
He'll be a driving force in our League One relegation battle next year.

None of that lot have done anything to get excited about.

Did any of them play at a higer level when they left us.

    Don't think so.

    I Don't Blame Tongy..........

for being totally pissed off with the way he is treated. He deserves a proper chance in the team and is better then the likes of Reid, Mattis etc.
