    It's neither Sheffield or Barnsley. Got Sheffield in full address and Sheffield ost code (like Barnsley) and is in BMBC area.

    Its in Barnsley

    technically and is counted in the population.

    Just like morley is in leeds, stocksbridge and chapeltown are in sheffield blah blah blah

    Its most certainly not in sheffield.

    The only reason anyone would assign Penistone to Sheffield is because that is where Royal Mail happen to sort the mail, and hence assign it the 'PostTown' of Sheffield. It's in the Barnsley Borough, so if it's 'in' anywhere, it's Barnsley.

    It's a common fallacy that people think the version Royal Mail use is the 'official' address. It isn't, the local authority is responsible for allocating an address, and Royal Mail for adding the Postcode and PostTown purely to enable them to deliver post. Unfortunately RM have a habit of changing said addresses to suit themselves...

    I work there and we have to say Penistone, Sheffield</p>

    Think for those who live there it depends on which team you follow. Dee Daas say that it is Sheffield. Tarn fans say it's neither Sheffield or Tarn</p>

    One of lasses on our shop floor complianed to Calender about 10 years ago and it said Penistone, Barnsley. She says she is from Penistone, Sheffield. They replied and said they would say Sheff in future. SAD!!</p>
