Hard work and Luke Steele won us the points. Some quality at times but most satisfying for me was that we got back to the work ethic of earlier Flitcroft games.
Thought it was an entertaining game. Brighton looked a decent side, plenty of pace and movement, particularly down the left. We worked hard and got our return for it. 2 soft penalties but thank goodness Steele saved their's which gave us a lift and really got the crowd going, there was even singing in the East upper!
Brighton kept the ball well, played it about but 1st half especially would say they had majority of possesion but we limited the number of chances at goal. When saw our line-up couldn't understand Mellis wide and Etuhu in the centre. Etuhu would be my MOM he put in a great shift.
Wasn't the best footballing game! But everyone one of our players worked hard from start to finish! Thought delap, kelvin and o'Grady were outstanding! But everyone played there part! Was abit shocked to hear Perkins named mom as I thought him and him affected the game te least! But who cares! A massive 3 points!!
It was the sort of display You want to see from your team when you're in a relegation struggle. Every player gave 100% from the first whistle to the last and still, at times, played some decent football. They didn't let their heads drop when Brighton equalised, which could easily have happened. Instead, they took the game back to the opposition and were rewarded with a penalty when the Brighton defender pulled Dagnall's shirt down to his knee caps. Luke Steele's superb penalty save was the icing on the cake. It was a hard earned victory against a talented Brighton team, but I felt we earned the win through our never-say-die attitude. I'm not going to resort to pedantic nit picking over any individual's performance, as that detracts from a very good team performance. For example, even though Jim O'Brien wasn't at the top of his game, he continued to give his all, never hid and always made himself available to his team mates. All in all, a very good evening's work.
A solid, workmanlike performance with plenty of effort and a refusal to let heads go down. Precisely the kind of thing we need to do from now until the end of the season. We rode our luck at times, our penalty was iffy and Brighton missed clear chances early in the first half and througout the second half as well as Steeles save. That said, they have a lot of ability in their side and for long periods we kept them at bay. Defensively I thought we were much improved. Excellent performance from Wiseman and Delap added much needed aerial ability when defending set pieces. He struggled with LuaLua in the second half but Flitcroft acted decisively and defused the threat. Perkins won the MOTD (in my opinion deservedly) Etuhu looked more comfortable in the middle and although we were overran at times in the second half those two set the example with regards to effort and chasing off the ball. O'Grady ran his nuts off. Scotland took his goal well and Daggers added much needed energy in the second half. Back to reality after the Etihad debacle but no sign that the momentum has fizzled out. You Reds.
Agree with Etuhu MoM, the lad is a totally different player centrally to when he plays out wide, also give a thumbs up for Wiseman last night that performance was one of his better ones for us and also a mention for O`Grady who is beginning to look the part, still needs to provide more movement and be up to speed at kick of and not 10-15 mins into game. Also think Mellis is changing as a player, under Flicker, and putting in more effort defensively and seemingly happy to get a shirt anywhere on the pitch.
Good old Flicker after all the criticism he got the team and tactics bang on. Scotland on for about 50 minutes from start, gets us in front for a change. Ethu back in middle and Mellis with a bit of flair. Ogrady,s strength and defence superb. Daggers on in second half with fresh legs and speed played havoc. We never let them play and closed them down quickly OBrien run himself ragged, best part of his game is closing opposition down. We need to do this with Watford. We need three more wins an a couple of draws. Wendy's match needs to be a win or definitely a draw
