When i was The Hight watchman clerk at hansons Newmillerdam, i got a Phone call..the Lady at the other end asked if this was the Wakefield maternity home. when i said no,she was distraught she only had a tanner...so quickley i got her details..rang the maternity hospital explained the problem..they were only to Happy to tell me Mother and baby ok......what a pleasure to ring the lady back.and tell her the news.......another time, a car polls up out side the the office.....he had just seen a cae go off the road,Slowly,of coutse i downed tools and went over...it was a Mine, the driver fast asleep nissed as a pewt,....another occasion..some one came and told me they had seen a sports car crash into a wall.....He poor chap was Dead....and the time people stopped at the pumps to fill up......
RE: or this one Ok ,well how about this when i joined up in 1949 with Royal Engineers did my traing at malvern made several pals,including TAFFY SIMES,from welsh Wales as it happened we were sent to Hong Kong to gether same unit. then in 1951 i left came home to go back to Korea. and did not think i would see taffy again. as i boarded the Ship at Southampton, i hears some shouting Yorky,Yorky, there were lots of squaddies around,i never thought it was me, when i stepped on deck there was Taffy......BUT,he was not in the RE<he was in the Tank regiment...he told me he was going to the same unit as his Brother....well it took us 7 weeks to get to Japan,,,,,as you can imagine lots of pints were supped.....then once again it BYE BYE Taffy...time marches on....im now out in KOrea its the Monsoon Rainy season.....im just coming back from the Sharp end,the rads are ploughed fields ,only the likes of a LEYLAND HIPPO,can plough it way thro......how ever.this day i see.a Tank bring toewd towards me it is on a trailor,being toewd by a Diamond T......there is a chap sat on top of the tank....as i go by Slowly its Taffy Simes..he shout say hello to my Brother..who is driving the Diamond T.....ive never seen or heard of him since.
RE: ot OH YES................Now when i wprked at Fisons fertilizer factory..i ran a Buster..footy sweep 21 up.i was on Nights..the Buster had been won tat day...i went to the Next plant to tell them it 3 am in the Morning...i saw this chap wheeling a barrow..i could see some one had been sweeping up..i went to the mess room.there were 3 blokes ther..i said you rotten barstewards you nodding off ,and you left that poor chap to do it all.......WHAT CHAP THERE IS ONLY US HERE. On another occasion ,when i worked on the nights at Hansons ,there were tanker drivers used to report in,,it was about 4 am when this this reported...and Mister he was white.and shaking like a leaf,when i saked whats up he said....he had just come off the Motor way at MARR,and saw this woman ..it was lonley it was Quiet so he stopped,and put all his lights on to see if she was ok..There was No one there...
