<div>And could this have something to do with my PC screen going blank not long afte initial boot up?</div><div>Been doing it some weeks now, and so does a mate's who lives not far away.</div>
It isn't unusual for it to show that message when you boot up the PC - mine used to do it all the time so it may not be part of the problem. Exactly what it means and why it says it I don't know. Jiggle with the cable, maybe?
Cheers - just found out quite a bit <div>My screen has been blanking out minutes after boot up for several weeks now. PC stays on but screen just black. Takes several restarts to clear . Apparently it's summat to do with the monitor not having the capability to refresh at the same speed as the rest of the system and the shutdown is a safety measure to prevent the monitor from damage. Apparently gottaperform some kind of safe mode reboot, then access a menu via F8 and change setting to a supported one before restarting. (seestars)</div><div>Shish! I've had them nearly 3 years without a problem, but if that's what it says then I will have to try it. (dunno) </div>
RE: Cheers - just found out quite a bit That sounds a bit weird - in my experience monitors tend to stay independent of the PC regardless - they might not display owt if you've got the wrong graphics settings etcetera but, unless you actually change anything, they should usually just plod along. Computers, who'd have 'em!!!
RE: Cheers - just found out quite a bit There's no accounting for monitors... my expensive (for me) 1600x1200 20" Dell tft is playing up. First it started turning itself on by itself. Then it started going blank randomly. Now it's behaving itself. And the punchline is... monitor manufacturers regard them as "disposable items" so you can't get them fixed. Chuff! How can a £300+ monitor be disposable? Bar stewards.
