You could try Swarfega though I'd check it doesnt take the colour out as well.
There is probably a stain devil that supposed to do it as well -availlable from all good supermarkets

RE: You could try Swarfega Not sure if Swarfega is a wise idea on a cream coloured carpet. It's just dirt/carbon/oil from the chain/sprockets from the bike, forgot to wipe my feet as I came back into the house! Been scrubbing it vigorously for over an hour to no joy.
Vanish Carpet and upholstry cleaner A mouse that you spray over it, leave and then gently rub. Used in on a beige carpet when I laid a door down flat without realising there was quite a bit of oil on the hinges and it took it right out. You probably haven't helped by rubbing it in for the last hour though.
RE: yes he could use the garage to forget to wipe his feet in the house i don,t think folk in barnsley have got round to wiping their feet yet seeing as most of em haven,t got a carpet.
you really do talk ********, ahem: someone didnt wipe their feet before walking ont carpet, therefor barnsley people dont wipe their feet and have no carpet.
Makes sense
