I asked this on the previous forum, and I can't remember the answer.

I was only about 10 when Chris was involved in the car crash, but I remember him being a good player. Can anyone shed any light on what happened, how bad he is now or anything along those lines?

I remember him struggling to walk onto the pitch a few years back to a huge ovation from the crowd. I can't find any news stories about it though.

harsh giorthee...very harsh indeed. A very unfortunate accident i feel.

On the subject of him being a good player i cannot recall that...i remember him as pretty average/poor but i sincerely hope he is well these days.

Doubt he will ever be 'right' again, fairly sure he still goes up to the Keresforth Centre for re-hab/physio treatment.

As for his playing abilities, if my memory serves me right, he scored a shed load of goals in the juniors/academy team, maybe even the reserves, but never really broke into the first team, then the accident happened, real shame for the kid

So is it just physically that he struggles or was there any brain damage etc?

I remember when I saw him on the pitch a few years ago he'd made great progress but looked severley disabled.

For an 18 year old kid he was a very good player.

Must admit, I know very little about Chris Jackson, and his accident

I was 6 when it happened I think. I think when he was called onto the field during our 'legends' half time feature, he was wheelchair bound, paralyzed from the waist down I believe, however all I know is what i've either been told in conversations or overheard from others.

As for his playing abilities, again I know very little, other than a video mi dad once gave me when clearing a load of old tapes out. Barnsley vs Sheffield UTD at Oakwell about September 1995 time, so I reckon it wasn't long before Jackson's accident. He played on the right wing I believe and had a cracking game, setting up at least one of our 2 goals, maybe both of them, in a 2-2 draw. Very talented young lad, it's a real shame what happened to him.

Bang out of order fella. He was a young lad with potential and a serious accident took his future away. Whatever the circumstances it was a tragic accident that he paid for with his career and his life as he knew it.

He's currently at Keresforth Centre on respite due to his Mum and Dad going on holiday. He's in the next room to my brother who had a stroke at 40 and they keep each other company. Unfortunately Jacko, who I have known since he was 10, is disabled and his speech is difficult to keep up with although he still has a good thought process.

Its a great shame because without a doubt he would have made a great player and would have become a regular had it not been for the tragic accident.

    Giorthee. You're a lovely person.

After being a fan for years and working for the club, I have read this forum on and off for many years although I don't always agree with alot of views I have never felt the urge to register and post of the forum until yesterday.

As someone who has known Chris since he was a young kid playing for West Green and I was the one who invited him back to Oakwell for a emotional return in which he received a fantastic welcome from all the fans, I am enraged by this so called Barnsley fan giothee.

I can only echo Winnie's sentiment!! Who are you to come on a forum and start slagging a lad off who has fought for his life and is still battling to this day!! If those are your opinions I say keep them to yourself and comment on things you know about!! Chris was and still is a passionate football fan and still talks very fondly of his time at Oakwell and still follows the scores etc.

Rant over before I say something I shouldn't!!!

P.S - Winnie I heard about your big un' mate and was shocked I hope he is recovering well mate!

Wow, I always wondered what happened to the singer of Savage Garden ;-)

Re: Jacko, I remember him not being a very good player, however, not long before the accident we played a friendly away at Halifax. I went to the game, and he had a right game. I seriously thought 'this is it, he's making the player he had the potential to become'. And then it happened. Was gutted for the lad.
