Perhaps Kelvin's attitude and approach is different at the end of March 2014 to what it was at the end of December 2013?
It's odd that he hasn't featured more. Not necessarily because of his ability as I still think he's a pretty ordinary footballer. But Danny has tried pretty much every players combination and formation known to man since coming back. Our failure to get to grip with the midfield and the inclusion of Woods and a disinterested Mellis and Frimpong begs the question, why not try Kelvin? I certainly don't think he's the answer to our problems, nor is Reuben for that matter. Their inconsistency is probably the reason why Danny hasn't included them more. However, Reuben in a more advanced position is certainly something to explore as his shot alone gives him an edge over other attacking options. Etuhu is certain to feature more due to our lack of numbers.
It's a strange one. He seemed to be wrote off by Wilson for a couple of poor displays on the wing but Mellon knew his best position was in the centre so why wasn't this passed on? And if it was why didn't Wilson give him a chance there considering how poor some of the players that have been played there have performed? In my opinion both him & RNL should've been included a lot more over the past 3 months
When we played Wednesday U21s other week Wilson was taking to him after and I was ear wiging he said like Ive said your chance will come be ready for it when it dose because you never when your next chance will come if your not ready just keep doing what your doing
one swallow doesn't make a summer he was excluded because he was playing s***e............ now i know we could have excluded certain others who fell into that category too !
I just think he's a poor footballer. By the sounds of it so did Danny. For all you say about Woods/Lawrence etc they've at least got ability - they've just not shown it.
I wouldn't say he's poor, despite his performances at the beginning of this season suggesting he was. Towards the end of last season there were some games where he was immense in the middle of the park. If he can recapture that form we have a good addition to the team for the rest of this season. I certainly think we have the ability within the current squad to get us out of trouble if they'd just pull their fingers out. Having said that, if we brought another centre half in today I'd sleep much sounder!
I just don't think he's very good, mate. He's a good stopper. Great at just sitting there and getting in the way and when we were playing with 3 in the middle last year he was perfect. I said at the time that I don't think he fits into a 442 as a midfielder because he struggles to control or pass it beyond 5 yards. Not a criticism, just does. For all people say about Danny it's clear he's wanted his midfield to at least try and do a bit more - having Mellis & Frimpong central as soon as he could shows that. And for all the hammer Dawson gets, he does at least try and drive forward and does at least the basics quite well. I just never saw the great player people were talking about with Kelvin.
Woods - 169 games, 11 goals. Im not entirely sure what he offers. Not that Kelvin is offering much, although he did seemingly play well at the end of last season.
I don't neccesarily agree with bringing Woods into the debate, but Etuhu only signed a new deal last summer. Yet, Flitcroft / Mellon completely ignored him.
He was involved in around 50% of the games under Flicker/Melon and was injured and missed the first few weeks of the season.
Started both of our away wins. Was nice to read a tweet from Stephen Foster the other night. Suggested he was pleased to see Kelvin getting a chance again. Good judge of character was Foz.
My 'really' remark was in hope of something more elaborate than 'yes'. Have you met Mellis and Frimpong? They put the BA in Baracus.
can't remember anyone crying out for his inclusion, or for Paddy after his first half walk around the park vs Leicester squad is threadbare, he was best option available & he took his chance let's hope he kicks on from this
