on the way home had a similar occurence.... what then, I wonder if the racist thing would have been made such a show about, somehow I think not.

I have served in the forces for a very long time and have been posted to a few different countries...including "home" countries. I can tell you that racism has been directed at me in 1 or more of the "Celtic" countries I have been stationed in. In some cases it was just banter, but in a good many there was pure hatred "English b a s t a r d" has been just one of the milder racist taunts I have had...I am a male caucasian, I just let it go over my back and got on with it.... but I have observed that the moment a color is involved by said caucasian then all hell lets loose. I am not racist by any means , but do see many a trivial thing get blown out of proportion by the racial card being played, especially the color racial card. In no way do I condone drunken yobbishness, by the way, either. how many fanatics of a certain religion do we see openly preaching bile and violence towards the .... well lets just call them non believers of their faith,... and yet it takes a hell of a lot to get owt done about them, but a caucasian person says the slightest thing and KAPOW it all kicks off.

I think though that most people's opinion has changed from a few years ago and people now tend to hate the way the govenment etc are percieved to be protecting foriegners and being too politically correct and it's meaning that the general public are now starting to jump on any kind of crime or racism by foreigners because they feel like you do that if it was the other way round they'd be prosecuted.

So while maybe officialy it would get played down if they were black on white, people on here would probably be even more annoyed.

 

But as they filled in the driver and shouted paki wouldnt that be racist? Or are you saying a person of a darker skin tone cannot be racist?

 

its certainly not a good situation the country has made for itself

2 examples.
In the Midlands a man was listening to his collection of Led Zeppelin albums at a high volume. Police went round with a noise abatement officer and he was told that he was to turn it down or face prosecution and confiscation of his equipment..... several streets away the same month Police were called to another household to find a young Black man of the Rastafarian way playing reggae at similar high volumes...they gave the same warning, the Rasta man took them to court and won claiming they were racially persecuting him.....more locall to Barnsley now. A few years back an elderly white gent of thge chritian faith went in his local library and asked they display an A4 poster for his parish Christmas carol service, he was refused on the grounds that it may offend other religions,He was dismayed to find out later that the same Library had opened its doors to allow a Muslim group to use the premises to celebrate the end of Ramadan.

 

Totally agree with the last few posts. It does seem that racism only works one way.

that many many right thinking intelligent people of all colors see this too, its the foolish minorities of all colors who do the damage.

 

If racism only worked one way it would be a lot easier to solve. Unfortunately it works many ways...

...it's just that certain types of racism are more prevalent in certain areas of the world.

 

I didnt strictly mean it only works one way, more in one direction. Dont often see racism against whites being punished, and dont say it doesnt happen because it does. I went to uni in Leeds where there are large sections of ethnics and I have seen it and been a victim of it.

only when white people are adjudged to have racially abused (in what ever way) is a song and dance made.

The fact that it happens everywhere in every corner of the world makes no bleeding difference when white folk are subjected to it every other day as well...

The simple reason is, white folk take it with a pinch of salt and don't get upset as much.

Its about time that white folk stood up and played the "race card" every 5 minutes like every fecker else!

I would assume that with celtic countries you are including Northern Ireland, where for a porportion of the country the British Army are seen as an army of occupation. Surely the abuse you received was nothing to do with skin colour, but because of what you represented to the nationalist community.

I'm just fecked off with this I'm so oppressed because I'm white attitude that seems abundant in this country at the moment. someone told me about going to see billy connolly a few years ago and he made a similar comment about whire males being so oppressed. Yea, being a millionaire living in Hollywood is being so fecking oppressed.

I have black friends who cannot go drinking in Barnsley because they fear abuse because of their skin colour. Thats the reality of racism.
