A discussion in the canteen at work today, not a very serious one, revolved around, what if the 2012 Olympics were to be held in Barnsley, what venues would be used for the various events.
1 Athletics shared between Doroyhy Hyman's at Cudworth and Dorothy Hyman's at Wombwell.
2 Yachting at either Fleets, Elsecar Res, Worsborough Res, or Swanee
3 Swimming any of the above not used for Yachting
4 Horse Jumping, perhaps Ring Farm at Cudworth.
5 Beach Volleyball this was a bit of a puzzle til somebody remembered there was a beach at Hemsworth Water Park.

    Anybody got any other suggestions?

Forgot to say the fireworks for the open and closing ceremonies would be set off on top of Barnsley Main muck stack The cycling could be at Wombwell but they would have to dodge the Go Karts.

Thought of another one, rowing, they could hold that on that stretch of canal bottom of Harbro' Hills. They bigger the boat the more heats they would need and the longer the race the more times they would have to get out to turn the boat round, oh and it would have to be on aday when there's no fishing match taking place.
Now can anybody see the theme running thru this, value for money, no silly figures like billions of pounds being spent by the council.

That little waterfall on the Dearne by Asda could be used for white water rafting.
