The lad who is working with me has rung in today to say that the battery on his girlfriends Sat Nav has failed, and so he can't find his way to the office because he usually comes on the train, & so he doesn't know the way!! He's been working with us for 6 weeks & has had lifts in previously - (so should know by now). This is a uni student, who lives at home in Leeds, who can't find his own way to the M1.! Put the phone down from that conversation, for the new member of staff to ask directions to get across Sheffield. No comprehension of where to go. I'm sure that when I was 11 I knew how to read a map! (doh)
i've found that since passing my test very few of my mates are any good at giving me directions with or without a map, some still get confused if i let them be in charge of the sat nav
Send 'em to me I'll send them out on a farm call in the middle of knowhere with just a map reference to get on with. Of course, I've never been known to give the wrong reference out, accidentally on purpose. Oh no!
I think the key words are here "lives at home in Leeds" Obviously so used to having Mummy or Daddy wipe their backsides for them still. Does said student wear shoes with laces or do they have to wear slip ons or those with velcro straps, just in case they get into difficulty?
He's pulled fast one there mate. What a pathetic excuse. He would have been better ringing in sick or summat. To think this fella is working towards a degree anall!
I once couldn't get to work Because I'd woken up that morning at a train station with my own vomit on my only suit.
Funnily enough No-one else did come in! Another member of staff we have was laughing the other day about trying to get from Bradford to Halifax, but ending up in Wetherby! These are supposedly the "intelligence" of the 18-21 age group. Heaven help us. I asked her why she didn't look at the map book & she just laughed saying it was the Sat Navs fault! (doh)
RE: I think the key words are here Too right - all the students I have worked with this year bar one have had difficulties getting into the office....and invariably want "collecting" :- The excuses I've had:- "Girlfriend going to Australia is it essential I come in?" "I won't have enough money for my train fare by next week so can you organise me a lift/ can I work from home" "I didn't come in because I didn't want to put anyone out by asking for a lift" " Sat Nav broke down" "I turned up but couldn't find anyone so I went home" Unbelievable. I'd be embarrassed to use any of these excuses, but they just think it's acceptable. (furious)
