...of it being noticed on a CCTV camera in tarn that you have used a 'taxis only' turn off. Signage abysmal and not the usual 'No Entry' symbol. Father in law noticed when it was too late and is fretting over it.
RE: no idea The junction of Midland St and Kendray St. The left turn at the end of Midland St is now only for taxis and emergency vehicles. However the signage is terrible. You'd expect the classic eye catching 'no entry' sign (white horizontal stripe on red background) with 'taxis only' underneath. What you have instead is a plain sign that tells you its a pedestrian zone with 'taxis only' underneath. Very hard to take it in until you are on top of it and committed to turning. The traffic flow has been reversed on Kendray St, but it feels unnatural to turn right at that point.
think sign says £50 fine has been like it at least 6 months I think longer. Yet to hear of being fine though. It is not monitored by CCTV so far as I am aware.
I made a right pigs ear of directions around there last time I was in Barnsley. Sign posting was terrible. That's my excuse anyway.
RE: I made a right pigs ear If anyone did get a fixed penalty notice it could be challenged. The signposting is not clear enough and you're on top of the sign and turning before you realise what it says. Traffic Signs In order for you to be prosecuted for not obeying a sign the prosecution must prove it is a lawful one. It must comply in colour and size with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 . If it does not then the prosecution must fail. There have been four changes of traffic regime in that area in the last 12 months apparently.
RE: I use it all the time Nar - Now much quicker to turn left at bottom of Regent Street and then right just after the bridge. Takes you out back of the train station. The cut through the taxi rank is flawed when you drop on the barriers just closing. Unless you wanting to nip through the multi-storey. As for being done by CCTV - It is now possible as new regulations were brought in earlier this year giving councils the powers to use CCTV to issue parking tickets etc.. Although I very much doubt Barnsley Council will be using this yet. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/money/consumer_affairs/article3634374.ece
