If were going to do things like this all the time.... http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10309~1514737,00.html
The best player to come out of the youth ranks in a long time. I remember him vs. Nugent a a couple years ago and he had a great game; also seen him in the reserves and hes looked head and shoulders above everyone else. No doubt he'll have goen for about £50,000 or less with it being Grimsby struggling in league 2.

Another clueless decision by Mr.Davey, you should have given the lad a chance!

I'm sure the manager and his coaching staff

have assessed Rob and senior players probably eg Darren Moore have been consulted at some point. A conclusion drawn he's not going to make the championship grade in the medium term and not going to displace existing players from the first team squad.

Rob is 21? and should be at the grade now.

To be honest I can't see any point in the academy, we would be better off linking up with other local teams (Frickley,Ossett Town) and set some kind of feeder system with them. Davey seems to get the blame for everything which at times is unbelievable.

If we don't do something to improve it over the next 3-5 years then I would agree with you. Maybe new coaches needed? I don't know enough about it to really recommend anything. We could downgrade it to a School of Excellence (I think it is called) and save some money on it. I would like to see us specifically target it to improve it for a while now that we are better off financially again. If it still doesn't work then ditch it.

the problem with our academy is

At the moment it has got a bit of a bad rep through the local footballclubs, players ging there and coming back completely demotivated and with a lack of confidence.

my cousins lad has just been offered to attend 3 academies, barnsley, rotherham and leeds and all the people 'in the know' from local football are advising against barnsley.

its a sad state of affairs when local people from local clubs, who i know are reds season ticket holdersare advising against thsi because it could destroy his confidence.

the solution. a complate review of the worings of the academy from under 18 downand a resturctutre, work with local junior clubs and build up the reputation again so we don't lose all the good quality local talent and from what i've seen there are some good young players inthis area.
