I see differing opinions on here about him, but why do you have such love for him? He’s our most successful manager at getting there, but he’s still not won anything, for reasons I can go into elsewhere.

Needs to go. Looked inept last few years. To be honest, I would have parted ways with him after the last World Cup. He showed his inabilities then. We have been absolutely ***** all tournament bar Wednesday night.

Will rock up at USMNT as their manager.

"Won't get another job in football'?!

I'm pretty sure that if he wants one, he will. Also not entirely sure what Neill Collins has to do with anything here.

Southgate has done a great job and after previous tournaments I’ve wanted him to stay. In those I could clearly see a pattern and style of play so understood what he was trying to do. He also moved away from the obsession of just playing all the best players regardless of whether how that effects the team.

This time round though the team structure and selection just looked massively confused and it felt like a return to the days of us playing as many of the good players as possible on the pitch regardless of whether they can play together. That meant playing players out of position and the team losing all balance.

The result was us playing consistently rubbish football and being very lucky to get to the final, despite having everything in our favour.

So for me, his time is up and he needs to go. If the FA don’t want to lose him then fine, offer some upstairs position, but I think he’s taken the team as far as he can so he can’t continue as manger for me.

And Bayern. :) Barcelona weren't great until he took over. That side circa 2010 was incredible

Just seen he’s said now’s not the time to make a decision, well I’ll give him that and he’s got while he’s got off the plane and got home or the weekend. Cue the most successful England manager since Ramsay posts he should have gone ages ago.

Nearly all international managers for every country hadn’t managed at international level mate before taking their post. Don’t understand where you are coming from with that.

Other than Roy Hodgson I don’t think many previous England managers had either.

My point is regarding Pep that there is no doubt he’s the best coach to get these lot over the line. It has to be now with this generation as we don’t know how good the next lot would be.

Pep WILL need money throwing at him tho to entice him wage wise. The challenge is there.

Where else is there in club football for him to go??

Another stint at Barca maybe or PSG? Can’t see him going to Italy so other than a crack at the England or Spain job where is there really for him to go?

I disagree with you @Redstone . Football is our national sport, the Prem is hailed as one of the best if not the best league. 30 years of hurt when the Baddiel and Skinner song came out, soon to be doubled by the time we get to the World cup! It's not arrogance with the players we've had and got to expect to win a tournament. France,Spain, Italy Portugal, Germany expect to and have!

We need the Bazball equivalent appointment, let the players play without fear, get them expecting to win!

Quite right Helen and echoes my feelings on the matter.

I look at it similar to Man City. They won the league with all the money early doors with Mancini and Pellegrini (for England that’s getting to finals) but then something took them to the next level of football.

We are at that stage now where we need taking to the next level. We have the tools at our disposal.

I'd go if I were him, he must be financially secure now and could well do without the inevitable backlash from some sections of the media.

Agree with this. I think he’s done a good job up until the last year or so.

I didn’t watch all the games but we had that disastrous nations league effort last summer & then I’ve pretty much disagreed with everything he’s done over the last month or so.

We have been incredibly lucky all tournament really.

Last minute Germany goal against Switzerland meaning they went into the other side of the draw, last minute equaliser against Slovakia when we were seconds away from one of the most embarrassing results in our history, coming through a shootout & then the very questionable penalty in the semi final. Even Rodri came off at half time.

I don’t think Pep could cope with international football. He’s a workaholic who coaches his players intensely. You barely get anytime with your players at international level. I don’t think he’s suited to it.

We were on about that last night & agreed the US job made perfect sense with them hosting the next World Cup & him getting a squad of English speakers.
