off in the summer, gets his head straight again, regaines the confidence and becomes the best centre half this country has seen in many a year.

I hope so. It's not been nice, seeing his steady decline under Martinez

Couldn't agree more. I hate the way the media are ripping the back out of him. FFS he's 21 and playing for a manager who is clueless about coaching a defence (eg Wigan losing 9-0 to Spurs once). Poor lad looks shell shocked. There will be no shortage of takers amongst the big name clubs.

So you think Stones is a poorer player than he was at BFC, he became an England player under Martinez . The whole Everton squad have had a bad second half of the season.

He wanted to leave in August. They denied him that move to Chelsea under Mourinho.

They and he have steadily regressed since then.

I see no point in him staying there. If there are still suitors, he needs to make a fresh start. But I feel any talk of £30m to £50m will now be cut in half, at least. Which is a blow for us.

If he leaves this summer. It will still be 25m+ in my opinion. Everton won't sell for less than that because of the potential people are buying. The mistakes he's making are mostly because of his insistence of playing out from the back or naivety, not from lack of ability, just lack of experience and know how just yet.

I still hope Arsenal come in for him because he would fit in like a glove next to Koscielny and in front of Cech.

John Stones is the best young defender in the country by a mile.He will almost certainly captain his country sometime in the future.40-50million pound if sold in this country possibly more if Madrid and Barcelona get involved.

Reckon he'll go to Man Utd if Mourinho goes there, which I don't see happening anymore. Think he may still end up at Chelsea.

Players should take responsibility for their own performances . Its a cop out to blame the manager or coach if they are playing crap .

Absolutely mate, why should a dip in form or playing in a Team that has gone backwards affect the £40+ million price tag of a player who'll no doubt be in demand in the summer?

Yes he's made some mistakes....but some of media criticism has been well, well out of proportion and I suspect any proper football manager will see thay. it's obvious to see if you watch Everton that there are substantial problems throughout the whole team. Their midfield is atrocious, Barry is well, well past it and theyve not got an adequate right back, that's one of the main reason they ship goals... But the main target for criticism has been Stones. It is proper lazy journalism and punditry in my view.

I think his value will depend on how many clubs want him. You could make a very strong case for all the so called 'big 5' as well as Barca and Real Madrid if Varane goes to Paris SG. I still think £30 - 35m is possible.

It happens to most young players the media build up. Rashford can do no wrong at the moment, but give him a while and suddenly a dip in form will result in the media savaging him and making unfavourable comparisons to all and sundry. Delli Ali was the saviour up until a while ago and now one idiotic moment later and one newspaper was questioning his place at the Euros.

Stones will come again. He's playing in a team that cannot defend, aren't set up to defend and don't score enough for those defensive issues to not matter. He's got the often ineffectual-bordering-on-useless Funes Mori next to him and when he doesn't play, an ageing Jagielka. Their keeper doesn't know if he's coming or going and Howard is past his sell by date. A move to either Manchester club or Chelsea would see him re-establish himself as a top, top defender.

Naivety, and mistakes by playing it out of defence.?

His insistence on playing out of defence is the big attraction from all the big clubs ,its the way he plays nobody's wanting him to change that.
It's the Everton teams performance in general that's led to mistakes.
When he gets back among top players coached by a top respected manager/coach that's when he'll shine and be the best in the world.

No and yes. Yes it is that reason why people are after him and with better players that can offer more options for the ball carrier there will be less mistakes but that does cause him to make mistakes because he doesn't always do it at the right times and in the right places.

I agree with you about Everton as a whole because that's what's exposing him. That's also why I don't believe his price tag will have decreased because any top class manager worth their salt will have identified this and no this poor form wouldn't happen with better players around him.

As I said he will still go for 25m+ easily.
