Surprising number to choose for a centre forward. Don't recall ever seeing one anywhere wearing the number five. I suppose it's all part of that "being in the first eleven" idea but for me the numbers five and six should be the centre halves. Bradshaw wearing 5 is as daft as Ian Evans wearing the 7 shirt all those years ago.
Don't read to much into it he just borrowed a shirt for the game as he signed after they had gone down to bath with all the kit
It was 5. He has been brought in to play centre half with the option of charging down both wings at the same time, crossing the ball and then running into the centre forward spot to head in his own crosses. It's the Barnsley way, you know.
Ian Wardle turned out a couple of times with a number 1 on his back, but I saw absolutely no evidence that he was really a goalkeeper.
Actually, there's another: David Hirst. They introduced squad numbers for the 1993 FA Cup final and Hirst had been injured during the cup run, Paul Warhurst had been prolific as an emergency striker and was given no.9 for the final. Hirst took 5. The twist was that Hirst started up front with Warhurst back in his normal position.
If you saw him now you'd never believe he was ever a Keeper. Looks like some aging rocker. Long hair and a 'tache last time I saw him.
Quality! What's he up to these days? Since he retired from pro footy after two games or whatever it was? Edit - just remembered he had his career ended by a very serious injury. Feel a bit harsh now.
He's Manager (or one of them) of Dewsbury Sports Centre. Previously Manager at Havercroft & Ryhill Sports Centre. I don't really know him, but have met him a couple of times thru work. I asked him about that injury, as I was there at Port Vale when it happened. He said Robbie Earle never apologised.
