The roads are even fuller than 7 years ago during the blockades when petrol was 81p a litre.

And the rest of us mate. People who can afford to be chauffeur driven busy trying to price us off the road.

Come the revolution they'll be second up against the wall. After Chris Moyles. If I can find a wall big enough.

But how do you cut down on going to work and back?

Decent, cheap and plentiful public transport is only way its going to happen. But the government only care about public transport in London, rest of us don't matter.

Agree completely - the whole system is rubbish unless you live in London.

My trip to work is 15 minutes by car and about 1 hour (on a good day) by public transport including a 20 minute walk. Cost would be treble on public transport too. Just doesn't make any sense to get the train.

Public transport only works if you work in a city centre and live yards from a train station or main bus route.

Job commuting isn't like what it used to be i.e. a walk, cycle or single bus ride.

Until we move closer to where we work or find a job nearer where we live then public transport can't help us. Its the car.

Now living and working down south, I only use the car as a luxury item. Without it when I lived in Yorkshire, I would have been unable to get home in the evening due to bus and train connections being non-existant.

My commute used to be 30 min walk to the station, 50 minutes by trian and another 15 minutes walk from the station to work.

I don't have a bus link from the estate I live on and the times of buses from stops within 10 minutes walk don't link with the train times.

In June, after the floods, the line I used was shut until september so my only option was to travel by car. The trians have been running OK since but I haven't gone back becuase now it costs about the same and saves me over an hour each day in cummuting time.

Until they sort out the public transport system or the way we work changes people will always need to use cars.

    Nothing we can do.

Now that we have all adjusted our lives to be reliant on the car exploitation was always going to occur.

The same thing is happening with computers and their software.

Except in the computer World its one company thats running the show instead of a Cartel

    I blame maggie thatcher

if she'd not decimated this areas industrial base, we'd still all bewalking down t'pit or steelworks for afternoon shift

instead we are all following norman tebbits advice and getting on our bikes looking for work further afield, unfortunately the road infrastruture and public transport network isn't there to support that theory
