I've tried WinAmp 5.1, Windows Media Player 10, RealPlayer 10 and Apollo 1.4, but none of them are very good... RealPlayer and Windows Media Player are slow and full of stupid advertisements, and I can't get the subtitles to work with any of them.
I want to watch an avi movie file and the subtitles are saved as .srt files.

Help me, I want to watch Shrek 2 tonight! :pff

...all of them.....

.... depending on the codec of what I'm watching.

You might want to download Real Alternative though as an alrenative to Real (really, it is) as it plays all their files but doesn't come with the crap.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm me thinks.

BTW, are you still in contact with Matt (Midge)?

RE: ...all of them.....

Cheers, I'll try that one.

Unfortunately, I'm not in contact with Matt anymore... I used to have him on ICQ but I somehow managed to lose all names on my contact list some time ago, and I can't find him anymore. Well, we hadn't talked for ages anyway... :S
Matt is a good bloke, he took me to a pub tour every night during my first visit to Barnsley. I wish I could do it again some time, but I'm afraid I always talked too much about football and he got bored. :pff

I hope he's doing well... Are you still in contact with him then?

Divx player.

Although it can sometimes be a bit fussy with WMV format...

Oh, actually I've got that one installed on my computer, thanks for reminding me!

I still haven't figured out how to get the subtitles to work though...?
I've put them (the .srt file) in the same folder with the movie (.avi), what else should I do?

I just had a quick look through all the menus in DivX, but couldn't find anything where I could change the subtitle settings.

Alright... just downloaded the newest version of DivX, and there seems to be a "subtitles" menu now. Still don't know what I'm supposed to do though, changing the subtitles settings there doesn't seem to change anything.

Does the .srt file have exactly the same name as the file you're trying to use it with?

Yes.
I tried to find the answer in the help file and it suggested that I should download and install a programme called (Direct)VobSub... this is getting even more complicated now, what am I supposed to do with that? :pff

Do you have any DVD playing programs?

PowerDVD/cinema summert like that will sometimes let you choose subtitle features when playing an .Avi/mpeg with an .srt file.

For some reason I couldn't access the "subtitle tracks" menu in DivX Player...
Anyway, I tried WinAmp again now (after installing DirectVobSub) and the subtitles seem to work now... (chinny)

Thanks for your help! (Y)
