    1. Not announcing first thing this morning or even last night that there would be a pitch inspection today. The cold weather was no surprise to anybody so that could have been announced allowing fans more notice that there MAY be a delay.

    2. Not giving ANY explanation as to how a club with undersoil heating that has previously shifted snow can somehow fail to clear a bit of frost when other grass around Oakwell has thawed naturally.

    That is all.

If there has been some problem with the undersoil heating then fair enough. If we didn't use it properly for whatever reason then fair enough. If Oakwell has had its own mini ice age that hasnt affected the area around the ground then fair enough but at least take a few minutes to have the courtesy to TELL the supporters the reason why.

If the pitch is unsafe then fair enough call the game off, we don't want to see players break bones (or nails as seems to be the case in these days of elf and safety) but you simply HAVE to keep your customers informed as early as possible. When to make the actual call? I'm not sure. If you make it early you will get complaints that conditions could change, make it late and you get complaints that you left it too late. Make the call whenever you want but you MUST tell your customers that there is a DOUBT as early as possible so that they are on the lookout for news and are able to make an informed decision as to whether or not to risk travelling.

    Snow

Think the snow thing isn't necesarily an issue. If there is snow on the pitch, it actually insulates/ protects the pitch, and as long as the temperature doesn't drop massively, the undersoil system is not under pressure. The snow is shifted mainly by ground staff not by heat. The heat just prevents freezing.

Problem is with extreme cold temps. I suspect that the system failed in certain areas.

And if that is the case then fair enough but why are we not being told that? I know they'll probably say they haven't had time to write up an explanation but im sure they will have had a couple of hours free this afternoon...

you do understand that the ground temp. can be lower even though there is 'just' frost and not snow?

Yes, you'd have thought so. But then again there's no accounting for the hissy fits or conspiracy theories that have been thrown out either. Maybe it was just circumstance, and thats it.

I spent half an hour with some of the London Tykes after the postponement.... Not one of them came up with the drama queen lines that have been spouted tonight. Maybe fans could take it on the chin til we hear the facts?

That was my point. Frost, severe = much worse than snow.

Hooray. THis board has really gone downhill in recent years but this weekend's posts are the pinnacle of shitness.

It was too cold to go ahead, the ref called it off. It sounds as though the club were confident it would go ahead but it didn't. Perhaps communication should have been a touch better but ffs why are people spending their saturday moaning on an internet forum about a football game that didn't go ahead. I appreciate it is frustrating but surely there is a better way to spend your weekend.

It does make you wonder Chef Tyke, some people are just serial moaners.

Man 1: 'So you're a Barnsley fan then eh?'
Man 2: 'Yeah, well more of a Barnsley Moaner really, every little thing the club does, i manage to find something to moan about, we could sign Messi and I'd complain about the wages we're paying him'
    Man 1: 'you lovely person'
