It's made me realise that there is more to life than getting screwed up about a bloody football team/club. Since my 60th birthday two weeks ago I've decided to have a final shot at the world. Meaning, that inspite of having circumnavigated the world almost five times in my youth, travelled to every continent, been to a hell of a lot of countries, I have decided to do a once and for all rememberence trip. First, I'm going to do a few countries in the mediteranean area, then on another trip I will travel to north africa, then onto India before flying to western australia ,Sydney and New- zealand. I intend to hire a car while in Kiwi and do extensively the south Island taking in Christchurch ,napier, Nelson and Lyttleton. I will meet some old friends on the way but there are many who are now dead and buried. From the Antipidese I will come home via, Fiji, L.A. and Possibly N.Y.

Although I did it all before as a young man I can but offer this advice to some of you young ones.....Grab this life while you can and travel so as to broaden the mind. Don't be in too much of a hurry to find a partner, settle down and have kids. There are lots of willing people out there in this world who are looking for a good time. Just be careful as you know this world is changing quickly. It's unfortunate that some people can no longer experience the romantisism of leaving home ,alone, at 16 ,going to sea and sailing the world. But, try not to wait until you're older and reap the mental pain of lamenting wasted youth, wishing you had time to do it again.

The whole point to this posting is that I am able to realise there is more to life than worrying whether the lads are going to be promoted and whether Ritchie is doing a good job or not. After 52 years of supporting them I will now take my leave

I'm living life to the full.

I'm sat at my PC AND eating a bit of cheese. I'm sure I'll look back fondly at this moment.

    Lovely but...

Thanks for the tip, Seeing the world must be lovely, but Im quite angry at the patronizing crap I have just read. Do you think that given 10 grand we all wouldnt swan around the world on a year long holiday? Of course we would.

The current situation means half of the world completely hates us, Id love to broaden my horizons but I spend far too long working to make enough money to live. Is football more important than travelling the world? Of course it is. Especially when it comes to your team. I bet one of the first thing the old fella does on his travels is check out the local sites, places of interest, FOOTBALL TEAM, etc.

Got to go now, need money for my Oldham ticket, now thats town with Culture!!

    Brilliant post

Dip yer bread , mate . Hopefully , my daughter will , one day , be healthy enough to do the things you've mentioned . Marc Richards' finishing was probably below his normal standards last Saturday , but it was a game of football , not life or death . Keep things in perspective .

    RE: Lovely but...

Steve, please, steady down with the anger. The post was not intended to patronise nor to put anyone down. It was merely a reflection on how I feel and what have become my priorities since arriving at the ripe age of 60. I would repectfully request that you accept this posing in the spirit that was intended and that is a realisation of becomming mentally liberated after giving thought to a given situation.

Well done pal, go give the ball a kick, have a great time, BFC will still be here when your travels are over, hopefully in a higher division.

    On a much smaller scale

2 months ago I booked to go away with the missus and the little un for May B/H, thus missing the League 1 Playoff Final. I did think at the time, what if, but in hindsight, I didnt have anything to worry about.

cocktails by the pool whilst excuses are being given on here. Aye, thank-you.

    Without a doubt...

That is the best post I have read for a very long time.
I've been going down to 'well for over 40 years and my teenage daughter got the bug about four seasons back. We've been to about 45 games per season during this period and she has now got 40 different grounds under her belt.
The football is totally  secondary to the enjoyment I have had in being with her and part of her growing up. No-one can ever take that away from me or change it. The pleasure we have had is immeasurable.
This life is not a practice run for the real thing.
I sincerely hope you enjoy your trip - Good Luck[IMG]
