Cambridge United, FA Cup 3rd Round, 1983. We lost 1-0. Went with Royston Legion and we stopped off on way back for a night out in Newark complete with police escort around the pubs.
My next away game was Sheff Wednesday, Glavin came on as sub with 10 mins left and scored the winner.

S****horpe United FA Cup Round 3, 4th January 1964. Losing 2-0 with about five minutes to go, then scored through Eddie O'Hara and a very late equaliser by class-player Johnny Byrne. Played on pitch covered with sand for fear of a second big freeze, which never happened. Absolute classic replay at Oakwell with the Reds twice in front, only to be knocked back by two goals from penalty-king Jack Brownsword from Frickley. Johnny Byrne's acrobatic bicycle kick won it for us 3-2 in extra time with the Scunny fan behind me wondering if his train would still be waiting for him.

Poor first match on the Scunny sand. Classic replay on a freezing mid-week evening. Great memories.

The first away game I was taken to by my late Father was a 0-0 draw at Rotherham United, August 1968. I didn't go to an away game without him until March 1976, when we won 2-1 away at Huddersfield Town. Peter Burke with a header and a pile driver from Kenny Brown, of all people, were our scorers that day.

Never been away with 'the lads'. I've been to Leeds a few times with my dad but my first alone was to Charlton on the free coaches last season.

Always go to the match with my dad.

Went to a home game without him. It was very odd and I didn't like it. Just not the same. The way I see it, win or lose, you only get to go to so many matches with your dad, and one day you'll be in a position where you'd give anything to go to a match (and lose!) with your dad, and do the rituals before the game and at half time, and put the radio on afterwards for praise and grumble...

I challenge any man to watch field of dreams and not get something in his eye. It might be a baseball movie, but the principle is the same.
