3-4 signings who can make instant impact as Shotton, Dickinson and Nathan Doyle did for Robins... And not forgetting Hammill Doyle was key in the midfield breaking up play... Shottons height, skill, pace, composure and long throws were key to survival that season... And Dickinsons passion and defence held tight at the back, also good going forward... And Hammill added pace, flair, and more importantly goals... All were relative unknowns prior to signing for us... Trippier also! Let's hope Danny and Ben can unearth some gems
Nathan Doyle was awful for the first 6 months he was at the club. It wasn't until he was cleared of any wrong doing when the police found cocaine in his car, and he scored his first goal against Forest, that he burst into life. I see what you mean though. But its easier said than done; I'm sure Hill, Flicker Davey etc would have liked all of their loan signings to have an instant impact, but sadly you just can't guarantee it. Hammill was a Davey signing btw.
Just looked at team sheet after robins took over... Steele Shotton, foster, Moore, Dickinson Hammill, de silva, Doyle, hallfredson Macken & bogdanovic Subs: Preece, JCR, Texeira, Gray & Colace Sad to say but we have gone backwards that side would p&?s all over current side...
Hammill's impact was hardly instant. He flattered to deceive for the first season. We got 3 good months out of him all told. Not that I disagree with you point, I look at our current squad and ask how many of these lads are actually improving as players and the answer is very few. If anything, most of them are going backwards. If we are going to take a relegation on the chin and re-evaluate in league one, fine. If not, it needs an axe taking to it, but it will also mean splashing some serious cash.
Recall that Moore, Doyle, Hallfredson, Macken, Texeira, Gray and Colace all received dogs abuse at the time... Nowt changes really
As the saying goes, you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone... Boggy was probably best striker we have had in past few years along with Vaz Te
People criticised Doyle but he did the dirty work. I'm pretty sure from him joining & playing every game we went on a 10 or 11 game unbeaten run. Solid player. I enjoyed watching Anderson, JCR & Hammill more than I do Cwyka, McCourt & Mellis Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
