After watching today I genuinely thought Flicker had to go, it's one of the most abject performances I've seen from a Barnsley team in a long time. We were completely clueless and couldn't break down a very poor Birmingham side - a few players were certainly trying hard, but seemed to be lacking in any particular game plan. It's the first sacking I've supported in a long time. Regarding the new manager, I think we need to bring someone in who can give the team an identity. Ian Holloway did it at Blackpool and Crystal Palace - so has adaptability, but I think he's out of our league. Michael Appleton wouldn't be a PR disaster, and I'd personally be devastated if he got the job. Steve Cotterill would give me a similar feeling. I'd be happy with Mike Phelan - someone who's worked with SAF for that long must have some understanding of tactics and preparation and making a team break teams down. He's never managed, so it's a risk - but he said he's willing to drop a division. The only other logical person I could think of is Danny Wilson. He's got various teams playing decent football, usually on a mediocre budget and they usually win more than they lose. I know he's Judas to some people, but he could turn out to be a decent appointment. My odds are on Phelan, especially with Ben and Maurice's connections. Or Glenn Hoddle as mentioned in another thread...be a great appointment.
