Personaly, If I ever heard someone been raciest at Oakwell I would at least report their seat number to the club after the game. If the person was near enough id confront them and tell them that its not welcome at Oakwell and if they continued to be abusive id get the police in and get them booted out/arrested. To be honest I don’t think I have heard anything raciest at Oakwell around where I sit for a very long time, but after reading DJ Fatty Boy’s very funny thread ( http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=70062&mid=439924#M439924 ) and seeing that a section of the Ponty End was in his opinion raciest it got me thinking is there common racism at Oakwell? What would you do if you heard Raciest cmments at Oakwell? Nothing? Join In? Or do something about it?
If I heard someone near me then I would say something (an I have in the past, including in the ponty end in the '80's)
I hear it a fair bit in the Ponty, but I don't say anything because I am a big scaredy cat I say stuff to them in my head though.
Racism at Steelers once Never done anything at BFC, but I used to be a Sheffield Steelers regular, and there was one black player in the league at that point (Hilton Ruggles), who would get the old monkey noises from an idiot sat in the seat behind me. Told him to stop, and he said "well, he does look like a monkey, I'm not being racist". I didn't know where to start with that.
Once, in the Prem, some knob in front of me started calling a n opposing player.......... a n@gger and a black lovely person, my lad, only a nipper then, looked shocked and upset, I tapped the moron on the shoulder, he turned, whereupon I set about giving him a full verbal battering to the point he was nearly crying, this dick was himself sat with his own son, I'd like to think that both youngsters learned something of life that day. That being said, most people now realise that the only colour prejudice is against team colours, report any fecker that resorts to racial name calling.
Complain - I did once but... ...the pussy steward did nothing so me and my dad had words with the tosspot hurling racist abuse. Some reds fans backed us up but other lard arse inbred council estate dwelling f*ckwits gave us grief. Unfortunately it would appear that we are stuck with a small number of idjuts. Just hope we never gets points deducted because of it.
RE: Depends how racy they were being. I am imaginging Jilly Cooper reading out Polo sitting on the Ponty end.
someone near me in ponty gave some about kyel reid, shouting 'get a fecking white man on Davey' so my dad had a go at him and everyone around us just went quiet and some giggled
I can remember last season on one occasion when we played Doncaster a few of chavs in top corner where calling uriah rennie a black barsteward/
My mates dad got banned from oakwell for a few years because he was being racist. Got wot he deserved in my opinion.
I confronted someone behind me this year He shut up after that - I would report them if they carried on and I have reported someone near me who kept making monkey noises at a player. They had him watched by an undercover steward but he didn't say anything that game! Chris Patzel dealt with that at the time</p>
To Be Honest Id Say Nowt After both fans of Sunderland & Derby in recent weeks have been ejected from the East Stand i think the club should sort problems out like tickets before anything else.
Hilton Ruggles - great name, great player, great guy Had the pleasure of working with him at Manchester Storm. Great player and top man Believe he's just retired finally at 43!!!
You worked at Storm? Was that during the brief glory years before they collapsed? Mad, going from 16,000 fans to coupla thou in a few years. Any goss on any goings on? Used to be a bit of a hockey nut and still keep an eye out for the scores.
