1 - the club signing some top players on more money than we can afford and ending up back in administration?

    OR...

2 - pick up some decent players on free transfers, not overstretching the budget and have a sucure financial future?

My choice would be number 2 - much as i would like to see some money being spashed around to bring in some good players, i would rather see us financially secure for the next 10 years and beyond.

the time for bringing good players in on higher wages will come round again in the future. we just need to be patient and put our trust in Mr Shepard and Mr Cryne and i'm sure they will continue to do the best for OUR club for years to come.

You are missing the point that it's only 23 June ....

.... and it's not the end of the world that we haven't signed Eddie Johnson and Stephen Foster ..... 'patience' is certainly not in the vocabulary of many contributors on here

RE: I'd like us back in administration please

    what about:

    1) we sign the players who can gaurantee the long term viability of championship football in barnsley

    or

    2) we sign **** all and go down, have a 'secure financial future' which involves dwindling gates and a steady decline into obscurity and longer term poverty

    Let me think...

    What about we ....

    1) Leave the chairman and manager alone to do their jobs and get off their backs, accepting we know **** all about it really; or

According to Ritchie we have no more striker targets

therefore we have missed out on our only striker target to a lower league club who last season could barely afford to put out a team!

    That's the point!

    What if we

    1) pose as fans, but keep our opinions to ourselves and close this bulletin board down

    or

    2) use this board and express our opinions as legitimate stakeholders in the club...

Ritchie will have a list of the players he wants most, I think

he probably tries to get the ones he thinks are better first, maybe you know him better that us and you think he is offering the crap players contract first and will get to the best ones last. Jesus!

Im getting woried that people we have publicly targeted are going to other teams, especially in a lower league. But... I hope these players werent top targets, we just had a slight interest so put a cheeky offer in. Ritchie and Shepherd will be working away in the background having serious negotations with our top targets ready to announce on july 1st. Hopefully!

    enlighten me as to "stakeholder"?

as i see it you decide whether or not you pay to go and watch football at Oakwell-end of story

you have no "stake" in the club and no say in any business/football decisions that are made-what you do have is an opinion on it all-and can express those freely so long as they are not libellous or slanderous

A customer, particularly a season ticket holder

    is a stakeholder.

Cheeky offer? Someone offering you a low salary to come

and work for them. If someone did that to you would you just laugh and sign?

    I'd prefer

Carmen Electra in thigh high leather boots sucking me off whilst I watched Kirsty Young and Cherie Lunghi pleasured each other on a large round bed with silk sheets.

RE: Cheeky offer? Someone offering you a low salary to come

I meant we are interested but have other more important targets. We know he is out of contract, and is looking for a club. So we make a low-ish offer, and announce we are interested. We have nothing to lose. We dont offer him anything and he goes somewhere else. We dont know what others are offering, however there is a small chance he might be interested. In which case we have a young player, who at worst is cover for better players, and is only on a reasonably wage which isnt going to bankrupt the club. We have nothing to lose.

    pray tell me then..........

what benefits are there in being this mythical "stakeholder" apart from shelling out for a season ticket-which you choose to do or not as the case may be?

RE: enlighten me as to "stakeholder"?

I've been watching/supporting barnsley (buying season tickets, going to away games, buys shirts in the club shop etc etc)for well over 20 years. I'm sure that everyone else on this board is the same (or probably longer). If this was a business transaction ('end of story') I wouldn't have bothered because I'd have spent the countless hundreds of pounds watching Arsenal play, or Man U, or whoever was doing well.

I think 'customer' is too clinical for a football fan attached to a club like Barnsley, and 'stakeholder' while it's a bit 'new labour', is probably more appropriate.

In any case, loyal fans get to have their say - it's your right. The brigade who want to silence the fans can **** off. It doesn't mean we all have to agree, or anyone has to agree with me, but chuffing hell, if we all shut up and let the chairman and manager get on with it, where's the joy in that?

The benefit it that you get to speak your mind on a website like this.

I know it's not a very good deal, but it's one we accept anyway.

    agreed

what I don't agree with is those who seem to think they have some sort of divine right to be right!-even when they are wrong
