We used to develop good local talent. We used to buy players and develop them. Bigger clubs came in and took our best players, which was always a disappointment, but the money kept us afloat. Now all I read about are Leeds, Doncaster, Sc**thorpe, etc. having their best players poached for 7 figures. We don't even get a mentioned much on the transfer front; incoming or outgoing.

only player we have developed recently that has been linked with big clubs is RNL, they reckon jamil adam is a good prospect aswel but rnl seems to be the big potential money earner

Where now for Flinders.... Palace basically threw away a million

He hardly played for them... a lot of money to shell out to send a player out on loan for best part of 3 years.

    Where will he go now?

We used to be a feeder club before the influx of foreign players into the English game. Not many youngsters are picked up from lower league clubs these days, the bigger clubs go abroad and buy established players or buy promising teenagers before they get into first team football.

I alas liked him, thought he had the potential to be a good goalkeeper, but he's not getting much first team experience. Don't remeber him playig much for Palarse, did see one game once on the championship he played in and made an awful blunder, but thats all.

In all fairness, untill a couple of years ago, we had hardly any foreign players. When we got promoted to the championship i cant think f any foreign players in our side, except from Jacob Burns earlier on in the season, and we had a fair few players from our academy in our 1st team squad, Kay, Flinders, Austin, Williams. What im trying to say is that barnsley hasnt really had an influx of foregin players until recently, don't get me wrong we have had some but it just shows that last time we had success, we had no foreign players

Youth team footbll is a very complex area. It depends where we have people scouting - I know for a fact that Burnley activley scout in West Yorks for players who would have been training at Leeds. Do we cast our net wide enough? Do we offer enough chance for first time development? Old cliche, I know, but players reach their peak at 26-30 yrs old. How many ex-bfc players are playing in the championship/div 1 at this age?
Quite a few, maybe if we had more faith in some of our players, and gave them a chance we would reap more rewards. At the end of the day, it is better at 20 yrs old to be playing in the 1st team at bfc then in the reserves at Man U, just look at John Cofie http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/7088232.stm.

He will be a much better player IF he'd stayed at Burnley, but his parents took took the $$ from Man U in the short term which risks his long term develeopment.
