</p> I'm talking about Wednesday obviously. Being a Barnsley fan I don't like em, but as I hail fromWakey I don't have any hatred towards em. Its just a bigger game that we have to win, one with a decent atmosphere, and of course, the local rivallry.</p> Most Barnsley fans you speak to hate them with a passion, I personally know one in particulary who bases a whole season on what we do against em home and away, and would almost accept relegationif it meant 6 points from Wednesday.Yet their rivals are Utd, and see us as a secondary rival, and one they've generally had the better of at that.</p> I'm not asking WHY you hate them, that list could be endless. Does it rankle that you hate them and they don't hate you back? Or does that make you hate em even more?</p> I suppose I could ask myself the same question when it comes to Leeds Utd, but thankfullyI don't have to interact with the rabid mongrels to often.</p>
Oh Wendy's hate us for sure mate of Course United are their main rivals, but believe me they do really hate us, They resent us being on the same level as them
Do any clubs see us as their main rival? I doubt it. Wednesday hate United and vice versa. For Rotherham it's both Sheffield clubs. Leeds, deluded as they are, still see themselves as a massive club and consider their rivals to be Man Utd and Chelsea. Even when they look locally, it's Bradford and Huddersfield, both of whom hate Leeds and each other. Donny may consider us their main rivals, but I bet they're more bothered about Rotherham and the two Sheffield clubs. No one dislikes us No one dislikes us No one dislikes us We don't care We are Barnsley Super Barnsley We are Barnsley From Oakwell
RE: Do any clubs see us as their main rival? Was at a wedding this summer - full of Sheff Wed and Utd fans - they like to beat us but proper hate each other. I got plenty of 'Derek Dingle' and all that - so I smegged the wedding cake.</p> Couldn't help but feel though that they went out of their way to emphasise how little we meant to them - a bit like Rothred makes out he's not bothered that nobody likes him. </p>
Living 2 miles from Hillsborough I can confirm that most Wednesday fans I know absolutely hate Barnsley. Obviously they hate United mostly, but believe me, you can't be that obsessed with "not caring about Barnsley" and not care!! (If that makes sense). They love to tell us how they take over our ground etc etc, but on the occasions we have beaten them (ok it's somewhere lodged in the memory if you look hard enough), there was plenty of anti Barnsley stuff going on. Wednesday fans will always say they're not interested in us, because they're trying to delude themselves they have bigger fish to fry - but believe me they can't stand us.
RE: Living 2 miles from Hillsborough I can confirm that I live near Hillsborough and I never hear anybody talking about Barnsley. Blades all the time.
For some reason... ...according to my season ticket holder mate - Donny see Scnuthorpe as their major rivals. No, he doesn't get it either, but they do.
I think thats the point </p> Most(certainly the "big" clubs) hate a local rival with a passion, yet we don't really have one that wants to hate us- except Doncaster bloody Rovers. </p> Its a rekindled rivallry for both teams and they probs look at us the sameway Barnsley fans see Wednesday. The local rival that has seen more success over the years etc.</p> I'll stick to hating Leeds, and laugh even louder at the fact they can't stand chelsea and man utd.</p>
RE: Living 2 miles from Hillsborough I can confirm that </p> Interesting stuff. I'm just trying to understand it a bit more because all I usually get on the train up is two hours of propaganda from the lads ("they've got a supertram that my mam has had to pay for...etc). And because I live down here I don't know any Wednesday fans to ask them. Well, I just saw one at ASDA in Reading getting my lunch, wearing his training shirt, and I had a little joke with him that got the kind of response that we'd normally expect ("Barnsley who?", "looking forward to you cup final?". </p> </p>
There's a couple I know Who wanted us to get to the Cup Final & actually sent me congratulations texts after the Chelsea game ... so there is something in the fact that they don't care that much (but still think it's more to do with the over-inflated image they have of their club) ....but most of them just can't stand us. Having said all that, him indoors isn't making the long treck to Oakwell - he can't be arsed. Weddings/Giving birth have been the only reason why I would miss that fixture. I guess we definitely hate them more than they us ... but to pretend they don't care at all is nonsense. They would hate to lose to the lowly Dingles - and it's about time they did. Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaars!
From my Doncaster colleague...on Barnsley his words</p> "<span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'"><font color="#000000">I detest the club and the ground! </font></span></p><span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'" /><span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'"><font color="#000000">I have a little more respect for your club since it changed its badge from that stupid dog badge which looked like Toby Foster. </p></font></span><font color="#000000"><span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'"> </p></span><span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'">To be honest it riles me as I pass Jokewell as I did this lunch time, if I was an pilot I would drop a bomb on it – but that would be probably be more money than it deserved. A gallon or so of petrol in the executive lounge would do me. I’d also add some of the cretins who hang around the Market Place in the day while other people try to carve a living</span></font>" <p class="MsoNormal">I've missed outan attachedpicture of a B52 carpet bombing somewhere.</p>
Wednesday and United Wendy (battered) United Thats all they can see, we are not even classed in the same league...we are classed as that little old club up the road thats has no fans and will never ever have success What is the thing they commonly say when you meet a fan from either club.............."we are HUGE" In fact for years thats the only positive thing Wendy fans have had to say about the club Went through town today following a car with a big Wendy sticker in the back Wendy fans and some United fans are all over Barnsley - sad but true
It's like the FA Cup run. Most Wednesday fans are bitter that we beat Liverpool, Chelsea etc, For instance, It was luck against liverpool. chelsea played ****, you got as lucky goal all the usuall ****. Then i point out at the Chelsea game that we hit the post Odejayi could have had an Hat trick. Gave us no credit at all.
No he's cool about everything. Got a bit of a chip on his shoulder about Donny being seen as a plucky little club from out of the conference playing at a higher level than they deserve.
i think the problem with wednesday is that the vast majority of their fans are complete and utter dickheads- i dont get how different they are from blades fans, they seem pretty normal in general, and i've no antipathy towards them whatsoever, dont even mind them doing well-just cant believe two sets of fans from the same city can be poles apart!
RE: No he's cool about everything. Tell him to remove that chip - because that's just what they are, so no point getting wound up about it...
Bit Harsh I've got them as Fourth division cloggers finishing in the bottom half after a yet another promising start.
And this is why myself and loads more were so angry with the Howard farce For our best player to go to a Sheffield club will only reinforce what Wednesday and Sheffield United fans living in Barnsley think of Barnsley Football Club Untold damage has been done to Barnsley FC
