Re: so lets mek it a straight eight next week then 8 consecutive defeats and 8 consecutive victories in the same season. That would be truly mental. Would be a good pub quiz question though.

You're right. Go here and select 54-55 season. http://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=208&teamTabs=results
I think the Exeter game you're referring to was late in Jim Iley-out's reign? 1977 I think. At that time I lived in Holmfirth and travelled to games with my Dad. He was away on business so I got the bus (had to change in Scisset I think). We were cruising at half-time but fell apart in the second and the "Iley Out" chants were ringing around the Ponty. It was a depressing bus journey home!
Remember Jim of the Iley hevvin a run of 12 undefeated, 8 of em were draws though int towd foth division.
Yep.....5 on trot then played Torquay on a Tuesday night in front of 12644 fans and lost 2-1......my first match Towd man said I was a curse....not sure if he meant at the footy or in life
and just to chuck this in here this is our record against Gillingham. http://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=208&team2_id=1098&teamTabs=h2h
