I'll have been supporting Barnsley for thirty years next years andI was thinking about the best teamI've seen . It would be easy to say the promotion team to the prem, which was a great teambut for me it's Hunter'steam that got us promotedfrom the third and the first season in the second - strong across the team with some really skillful players. The likes of Glavin , Banks ,Aylott , McCarthy , Evans werefantastic.

The 2000 team provided great entertainment too!

I agree that first season back in the old div 2

was brilliant, and could easily have been better, big results, big crowds and players and a manager who respecter the fans, big Norm was a real fans manager, always stopped to say hello etc to any fan

fully agree 1981/2 and all that.

People can harp on abart the promotion side but I think Hunters side had everything we were just short of a few coppers to go the extra mile and get us promoted.

    Agreed mate

Not just skillful; Parker, Glavin, Banks, Aylott and Barrowclough but with grafters like McHale, Riley, Cooper, Cambell and Walker not to mention excellent defenders like McCarthy, Evans, Joyce and Chambers, Bobby Horn was an excellent Keeper as well.

    Absolutely

Remember that we finished 6th, just 4 points from promotion, with the addition of just a couple of players to the promotion team (Birch and Walker, can't remember any others), if there had been the money to buy just a couple more quality players, that squad could have done it. More importantly, I think they would have stayed there as well.

    Premiership team post Christmas

After Ash Ward signed. Who knows what would have happened had we not had such a poor start.

    1981/82

got to be norman hunters red n white army for me,the smell of linament still takes me back to those halcyon days of banger banks ,aylott et al,what a shame it all came to nowt as that team was by far better than the team that did take us up to the top flight, much stronger too, well capable of holding our own in the old div1,prem in new money.

    Got to be that one

Also had we managed to go up to the old 1st Division it was at a time when we might have stood a chance of getting established.

Though, my memory may be hazy, but I always put the bulk of that side down to Clarke and felt that when it was needed Hunter wasn't capable of rebuilding it.
