    Life at the top is is a great read - redfearn's and hendrie's are a decent read. The one that wolves tyke wrote is worth a look as well - especially as I'm in it lol and a few others from here

    As someone as already mentioned - There's Only One Neil Redfearn. I also have The Tommy Taylor Story by Brian Hughes on my to read pile, i'll let you know if it's any good. Apparently the first few chapters are about his life in Barnsley, playing for BFC and then the move to Manchester.

    i'm in the redders book, in a way. was the one that started just like watching ryhill, when we were conceding goals and things not going so well.
    got a reply from redders after i wrote to him about it, top bloke.

    certainly was, and if you remember lyndsay, the leeds sc um fans had a banner when we played them at ours. they were my mates from the village.

    Yeah enjoyed that one. Dont think I got round to the life at the top but Im sure I have it somewhere. Also enjoyed Redders and Wolvestykes book.

    Barnsley: A Study in Football, 1953-59

    by Andrew Ward (son of the then manager Tim Ward) and Ian Alister. I bought this for my dad years ago (early 80s when it was published). He loved it. I've read it myself and it makes interesting reading in the light of the highly paid premadonnas that pass for footballers these days. Incidentally I met one of the featured players, Gordon Duggins (striker, played a couple of seasons in 2nd div) who lived in Church Gresley where I live and also worked at the NCB research establishment at Bretby where I worked in the late 80s. Sadly he passed away a couple of years ago, I often saw him pottering about the streets on his push-bike.
