I am banking on the 12th

    for the same reason.

I can't remember a single season when the league has started before that second Saturday in August.

Don't think you will ever get to find out for sure before close-season.

    What about September 1st, 1898

"The first game in Barnsley’s League history takes place on September 1st, 1898 - a 1-0 loss at Lincoln"

From a very unreliable web site!

    don't forget....

    how it all started.

by one village and another village kicking an object and the team who got the object to the opponents village wins....

I think thats what started it all off.

No idea when though, must be well before this lot

    What about

those early folk that ran holding an object to the other village, I think this developed into a kicking type thing........so that must be first. The day was a saturday, can't remember the date though!

The Emperor of the Han Dynasty, when the game was developed, was an avid player and fan, and spread the popularity of this game all over China during his reign. This roughly dates back to (Saturday)300 B.C., although there is controversy on the subject of dating, which could result in the origins of the game being as far back as (Tuesday neet game)5000 B.C. Regardless, this version of Football is extremely old. Despite that, there is still a version of Tsu Chu played today. </p>
