I'd go for Emlyn Hughes International Soccer on the Spectrum. You could even change the player names to put yourself in all three striking positions, centre midfield and it goal.

Player Manager on Amiga, it was Kick Off with a manager part to it as well, you could opt to play in position.

Not Player Manager 2 though - that was *****!

    Good call

I like this approach of bolting on a management aspect to an "arcade" style game because you can see what is happening in front of your eyes. With management games you are pitting your wits not against football but against the developer's idea of what football is. This is the achilles heal. But with Kick Off (and Sensible World of Soccer) you knew what you were working with. Okay, it might not have been an entirely accurate simulation of football but you could adopt your tactics to suit. If you see what I mean.

    Ultimate Soccer Manager 2

Could win every trophy in about 30 mins
Make a 2,000 ground into a 100,000 seater super stadium
    Place bets on matches
    Rig Games
    Slag the papers off.

Anyone else played it, shame it wont work on my PC now. :'(

    The Double on the Speccy...

I would still play that now if I had a Speccy to play it on.

I was referring to arcade games to be honest, but a great choice all the same. I remember once making Bristol City I think (there was no Barnsley as I remember so I needed the closest in name and colour, plus David Moyes played for them) league champions and winning the FA Cup in the same season, where we beat Luton 7-0 in the final.
