What's the point in laying into KO?

Getting sick of the smart arses on here who moan, moan, moan about KO. I just wonder what they hope to achieve from their constant criticism. Usually made with a smart arse quip, hoping to impress the readers.

If KO reads this forum, it'll destroy any confidence he was building up. So what's the fecking point of laying into him? Will it improve him? We've already been told by the coaching staff that he's very much a confidence player, so by your constant carping you're wearing down any self-belief he had.

If he's good enough to be selected by SD and his staff, he's OK for me. As they sure as hell know more about his qualities than any of you!

That's not the reason 'he dunt score goals'

But I agree, it doesn't help him or Barnsley FC at all.

Have you not learnt enough about the game by watching the game...

to form your own opinions of players, rather than the sell out of "if the manager picks himm then he must be good enough"?

Plenty of managers have picked plenty of players and plenty of fans have disagreed with them...as they have thought, in their opinion that they are not good enough.

    Like I say...

I've seen enough of the headbanded one to know he's not up to it. Butterfield had four shots on Tuesday night. So that's now one more goal and five more shots that your Hugo.

Anyone who likes Colace wants to give the Falklands back to Argentina. FACT.

well said Capital Tyke, SD said at the meeting that he was obviously p*ssed when KO missed THAT goal, but, KO confidence went thro the floor, they had worked with him alot to build him back up again, and it seemed to have worked, (SD also said he told KO he had no future here and put him on the list in May), however, since returning from preseason he had been the best striker, worked the hardest and SD was very pleased with him...

and yes, SCOItt, you do post some SH*t on here, the message from SD and PC that night was ; 'Get behind whoever plays in the red shirt, including the support staff' and after listening to them both that night i have been filled with confidence, soemthing that takes alot to do, and SD came over as a different bloke to one who is portayed on here via 'friends of friends' PC also said that night, and emphasised (i'll explain that word to you Scott, or you can google it...) that ALL the players were behind SD, and it seems to be that way!!!!!!!!!

    GET BEHIND 'EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A reasoned post against that.

Firstly let me say Im optimistic about this season. I think we have got rid of expensive deadwood and looking forward to the kids getting a chance to prove the academy is working. I dont think we've had a better signing than Hammill for years and is a real coup esepcially against our big club neighbours.

However - I am unhappy that we have started the season with KO up front. He has scored 5 goals for this club in nearly 80 games. He has also failed to score aginst any league opponents we've played in both pre-season and the 2 games so far. Goals against Buxton do not really turn him in the world beater.

We were promised that the most important thing to happen at Oakwell this summer was to sign a proven goalscorer. This hasn't happened and we've started the season with the striker who has the worst scoring record over 80 games that I can remember.

Davey does pick the team - you are right and we should get behind them - but it doesnt stop people being unhappy and having a negative opinion when the easiest thing to base it on is History. KO's history with this club bar one goal is not glittering and does not fill people with optimism.

KO has been given a chance that he doesnt deserve to change the negative opinions on him. My opinion is if Davey sees KO playing in 44 league games then he deserves to lose his job on the back of it not working. If KO turns out to be a Championship striker he and Davey deserve applauding.

20/20 Hindsight is an amazing thing - and I hope you can come on here at the end of the season at tell me I was wrong.

It must be strange to KO, hearing the boo boys

    Put yourself in his booits.

Here you are... you've demonstrated an aptitude for football. So much so that you're given a professional contract. Not only that, you subsequently get a transfer to a Championship club. In career terms, you don't get much higher. You've even been selected to the squad of your national side. The manager sees potential in you and plays you in many a game. You put your heart and soul into the game, on and off the pitch (where I hear he has plenty of time for fans). You are a model professional.

And then the boos start coming. From folk who wouldn't get in their local pub team, never mind at his level. But of course you expect some gyp... they're only trying to put you off and gain an advantage for their team. No wait, they're your own supporters. They keep harping back to your previous failings. They're instant you've had your chance and deny that people can get better at their job with training, practice and experience. After all we're all just as green at doing our job as we were when we left school aren't we?

Don't worry Kayode, we're not all stubborn morons. I for one wish I had half the footballing ability you have.

I think you'll fine they are called Las Malinas and rightfully belong to the excellently democratic and in no way corrupt Governmento di Argentinio.

And Colace is a holding midfielder, his job is to break up attacks and support the defence.

Wilkinson wasn't a great goalscorer but he did a job for us, enabling those around him to score.

Last night Carlton Cole and Heskey didn't score, but they too did the hard work up fron that enabled others to have chances.

I don't think the criticism of KO is a personal thing against him, more of a way of demonstrating to the management that people want to see someone else up front as he clearly isn't good enough.
I don't think you'll find a more likeable footballer anywhere than KO and no one deserves a bit of success more. But I'm afraid I'd never pick him again. 5 goals in 70+ appearances I'm afraid is woeful at any level.
I do agree there's no point booing him at the ground though. For one thing it does him no good, and secondly there is no point trying to get supporters feelings across to Davey as he showed last season with his lunatic idea of playing JCR in the middle despite constant criticism that he won't listen to what fans think.
