if I bid on something, then decide I don't want it...
I misread a description and don't want what I've bid for but there's only 20 minutes or so left so the chance of being outbid is minimal (it's a very obscure item...)
will I get penalised if I don't pay? I've sent the seller a mail apologising and asking if I can duck out of the bid but no response as yet... help!

contact the seller and hope they understand your predicament, they can withdraw your bid,if they're reading there emails that is,if you are unfortunate enough to win the item then at least he will know you are genuine when you say you dont want it
and if the auction ends before he reads it? I assume then it'll be down to his discretion!!?

bloody hell... 2 items misread in a day, hope I get off with one of them at least!

RE: and if the auction ends before he reads it? The seller can do a second chance offer to the second highest bidder if you don't want it.
RE: and if the auction ends before he reads it? yes, they may ask you to pay the listing fee, they may just send a second chance offer to the next best bidder, dont worry but i would advise you to be more careful when bidding, once is careless, twice is just foolish, and may lead to you getting struck off ebay.
aye well, thanks for the lecture and all that.. aye, cheers...
in the meantime, if you want to buy some over the knee red boots, you know who to contact...

thigh high red boots... I'm a girl and all that, it's for a halloween fancy dress costume... don't worry, it's a complicated explanation....
Retract the bid...... I've done it on a couple of occasions (Y) Just have a snoop around the Site Map and click on Bid Retractions which is in the bottom left hand corner. You won't be penalised for it either.
