Barnsley, Everton and French outfit Lyon have all made inquiries regarding the availability of Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle.

The trio have approached the Reds after Aberdeen were given the green light to make an offer for the French youngster following their informal inquiry last week.

Pongolle (20) recently returned to action following a troublesome knee injury and so far he's looking good having scored in both reserve games this season.

It is likely though that these clubs would prefer to take the player on loan with the exception of Lyon who have plenty of cash to spend. Gerard Houllier today splashed out £6.5million on Chelsea's Portuguese midfielder Tiago and he's still in the market for a striker. Ideally Ged would like to sign Djibril Cisse and ideally Rafa would like to sell him but there's no way the Reds will allow him to leave on the cheap.

Pongolle has never done anything to excite us and Rafa doesn't see Mellor as a regular first team player which is why we're convinced that the boss would like to sign both Dirk Kuyt and Michael Owen. Then again, who wouldn't?

Will it happen? Well we'll have to wait and see. All the clubs are playing mind games with each other to see who makes the first move. Anything could happen.

Everton Lyon or Barnsley whhooooo thats a toughie
