Injured, not fit or just not upto it ? Surley theres more to come from him or have we wasted our money again ?
Obvsiously... The lad has the talent in shed loads, otherwise he wouldn't have represented his country (and scored several times) and earned a move to Premier League Blackburn. From what I've seen of him, and I have to say, it's been very little in a Red shirt, he looks to be vastly out of shape. From the vidoes I've seen on the net, he looked fit, primed, quick and with an eye for goal. So far, he looks sluggish, dumpy and unless he get's on the treadmill soon, I see no reason to waste his and our time, by sticking him on the bench week in, week out. One thing; I have to say, the lad was injured just as he arrived, but even before that, he looked a little 'heavy'. Get him fit and raring to go, and we'll have a much clearer picture of the lad.
He's only represented his country at under 21 level Which is, when all said and done, junior football. He's done nothing of any note at senior level. The football history books are littered with players who have shone at junior level yet made little impression in senior football. And I'm not sure his move to Blackburn marks him out as a good player when they have failed to play him since signing him. He'll be 25 in January yet he has only started 52 competitive matches scoring just 13 goals. It looks to me like the promise he showed as a junior has failed to materialise.
Still, representing your country at ANY level is a good achievement. I still stand by my judgement. The lad is overweight, and right now, we aren't seeing anything near what we should be. If he's not willing to work hard to get fit, then send him back.
RE: Still, representing your country at ANY level is a good achievement. You would think Rigters would want to prove himself and at the moment theres no time to grab a place in the team and get his football back on track.
I can remember Iain Hume saying on the main site a few weeks ago that Rigters has been doing some great things in training and is a quality player. Perhaps Simon Davey thinks he dosn't work hard enough, another Christansen? Either way if he isn't getting games how on earth are we to judge him. (chinny)
I would rather play Rigters than Odejayi......... As we all know Odejayi is not good enough. At least with Rigters we dont know for sure yet.
RE: I would rather play Rigters than Odejayi......... At least we know Odejayi will put a bit of effort in. Its crossed my mind that Rigters is Deon Burton Mark 2, and he isn't putting in the effort 'cos he's not really motivated by being here. If I was a betting man I'd say now that he won't play more than 6 or 7 games all season, he won't score in any of them and he'll go back to Blackburn a failure, with a spot in the BFC archives as one of the worst loan players we ever signed. Within 2 years from now he'll be plying his trade in League 1.
