If a multi-billionaire investor offered BFC a very healthy wedge of his fortune to change our colours would you be happy with that? COYB doesn't sound right to me at all!
Yes and no. Yes on the basis that it would be nice to compete financially with most other teams & No because Barnsley are Barnsley who survive on there determination to be where we are today on limited funds. There's clubs in league 1 with a bigger financial pull than us but unfortunately having cash sometimes dosent always bring you success. It'd certainly be interesting though
Yes - A colours a colour. The fabric of the club will never change and I would swap to be the most successful we can possibly be. Although we generally fit into the small club category, if we were to get promoted we would sell out every week. The capability to get 23k every week is there and has been shown over history. Prior to the miners strike we were one of the highest supported clubs in the north of england. I'd swap our current state for the colour on the shirt in no time. Its not as if red was our first colour anyway. Just think Father Xmas and Coca Cola.
I do believe that if a multi-billionaire did take over the club the club would quickly turn into something that we don't recognise today. There is enough population around the area to tag on and more than tripe the gates. People just follow success our season in the Prem proved that. Answers yes (dark blue) but I would probably regret later with attendance prices I can't afford to pay.
Yes... I cannot see any reason why they'd want to change the colours though - I can get the Cardiff idea.
I'm just mean off the back of the Cardiff idea, I'd be happy with extra investment but if it came with the price of the club's history i.e. changing our colours then I'd be against the idea.
deffo no. and we dont need it Prefer how we are now (while we keep giving it a go). Its part of supporting barnsley imho. If we did a man city it would feel false. I believe our club will get better and better with our youth system and carefully managed finances whilst others chase the dream. I think we are a couple of seasons away from being a quality side IF WE GET OUR QUALITY YOUTH PLAYERS ON LONGER CONTRACTS I like not having a clue what the season will bring. Its part of the excitement. I think Keith is also genuinely excited by the players coming through.
I'm with you mate I don't want someone pouring money into the club. I'm much happier now we're trying to break even each year. I wish we'd done it sooner. Any success we do achieve will be so much sweeter if we do it this way. Just like 1997. I may be a dreamer, but I think we can do it again.
Re: I'm with you mate I'd hate being blue, couldn't stand tbh. Like Jay, i'd prefer if we did it through hard graft and not through someone just chucking money at us- i.e. do it the right way.
No I aspire to see my club in the Premier League again, but do it through hard work, long term planning, the club standing on it's own two feet financially, not taking financial short cuts which may put the club's future at risk, not being at the beck and call of some dispassionate individual, being loyal to and proud of all the club's traditions, playing winning football which is easy on the eye and doing so in the right way rather than a win at all cost attitude which is the domain of the Blackwells & Morgans of this world.
It wouldn't be BFC anymore IMO. I'm not even bothered about getting a billionaire, like a few others above I would rather us gain any success through honest toil and trying to do it without risking the future of the club. If more Barnsley people came to the games we could be a very competitive Championship side. We just need a few more thousand through the gates, it's that simple.
If someone was willing to invest in the club I'd be happy with any change up to the name of the club, if he wanted us in pink with a My Little Pony mascot I couldn't care less.
As someone that this situation directly affects, I'd have to say you must take circumstances into account. If the club is well run & on a sound financial footing, would I be OK with it - No. BUT, we have been badly run off the pitch and accrued massive debts, debts which would have put us under if the Malaysian investors had not stepped in - and they continue to underwrite us. Now this guy, Vincent Tan, wants to pay off our debt (circa £60m) and convert that into equity in the form of shares - turning us into a debt-free club overnight. If he walked away, the issue of kit coulour would be irrelevent - we'd be finished. Am I happy about changing kit colour, no, but if it means still being able to watch my club on a weekend I'll relectantly go along with it. Don't think it'll last long tbh - and the club has already sent out an email survey to ST holders about their views for next year. And anyway, if the £100m mentioned comes true I'd be happy to play naked
Re: No What about if one of us was lucky enough to win the Euro Millions and wanted to put a good few million in to the club? Would you be happy with that financial short cut?
Absolutely. However, that figure is open to question with up to £32m supposedly being owed to Sam Hammam (sorry, the Langston Corporation lol - a company with only one trading contract, CCFC). Basically, imo, it's money laundering on the part of SH in the way he arrived at this fantasy figure. It's an unsecured loan and the club have offered £8m as settlement but SH is asking for £10m - so that could write off up to £22m with the stroke of a pen. There was also at least a £12m overspend on the stadium budget by a certain Peter Ridsdale - some bufoon forgot to include for the fitting out of the stadium!
Would it be a gift of money? Would the person want a return for their investment? Would they want a say in how the monies were spent? Sorry John, but until such a hypothetical situation actually arose I can only stick to your original question, to which I gave my honest answer. I simply don't have a hypothetical answer to every hypothetical question.
Re: Would it be a gift of money? I know it's a tough one mate, I just thought you had all the answers I'm happy to see us carving out our future through hard work and financial sensibility, if the foreigners decide to walk away from Chelsea/Man City/Leicester/Cardiff it would leave them right up **** creek.
Cheeky, young bugger!! It's a good job I like you!! You're bang on with regards to the other clubs. However, the investors don't necessarily have to come from abroad to be less than scrupulous with regards to their true intentions.
