It was called Top Towns. I remember the song from a different round being about the Barnsley Six (did they ever get released). "Knees up, Knees up, Get thi Knees up....Running in the Barnsley Six." The organisers of the show ended up with three Semi Finals and despite being undefeated we were barred from the Final on points scored.... BBC North fix.

I must have missed others but I definitely remember the song , actors were dressed as old fashioned footballers looking to scoor a goal.
Funny as owt and I always remember it though it were some years since, probably seventies, not sure we had colour telly then would love to get hold of some copies, wonder if Mickey Finn could help?.

Hi, I was on that show when I was at school. I read a poem out about Barnsley miners.
It was indeed Top Town, and we were knocked out because there were 3 semi finalists. It was BBC, Eddie Waring was a judge and it was hosted by Dave Lee Travis if I remember rightly.
I think the song went along the lines of:
    Where's the goil oil
    Where's the goil oil
We haven't scored a goal since Barnsley won the cup.
The guy singing the song was called Johnny, though I forget his surname, I probably still have the Chronicle article somewhere, so could find out.
If anyone has footage of the programme, please drop me a line. I'd love to see it again.
    Cheers!!

Persistence pays off Turvey if we get more positive posts like Muttleys we may never have to go over this subject again.( hurrah).

Been trying to find footage for years mate.
Couldn't find the last posting on the subject in the archives( not very good with workings of websites) or the post from Turvey so posted again to try and find out anymore on the subject.
Been looking on the BBC website to try and investigate further and see if I can find any available footage or videos of the show but must be looking at wrong links .

Can remember Eddie Waring being very biased towards Wakefield because of his Rugby links.

Thanks Marlon, if I can find it, I'll post the article from the Chron., it's around somewhere at my Mum and Dad's. Weren't many home VCRs around in those days, so I don't know anyone who taped it. It may be in some dusty archive in BBC Leeds!
