it took him 3 seasons to do the job. Many, Many on here are shouting for stability. Rumour is saying he is here to the end of the season, I hope that's not the case. Hopefully he will be given the same 3 years to achieve something like last time, in fact if he is half as successful then that will be a huge step forward from where we are right now. We may even go down, but if so then I really hope we give the man the chance to get us built up and back in the championship.
I don't think that there is anything to that rumour. At press conference Ben said that he wanted to keep the term of the contract confidential, but hopes he will be here for many years to come as that means he's being successful. I suspect the usual 12 month rolling contract. If it was to EOS only, I think they would have had to say.
Cant see it missen 3 years nivver unless we are pushing for the big league. Fans are owt bar patient.
Couldn't agree more. I don't want any other manager in charge of our club now for at least 4 years no matter what happens. It's the only way that we have a chance to build something sustainable. It's not like we are appointing someone with no experience and then sticking with him even if we have no idea whether he can do the job, which is what may have been the case had we stuck with Flicker - We know he has the credentials - so let's just give him the time, even if it get's grim at some point.
That's the problem these days. It will certainly be grim at some point, everybody has a run of bad form. What seems to keep happening, not just at Barnsley, is that managers are not given anything like the chance to get through it. Look at Pardew at Newcastle, people were saying he was under pressure and very probably only his 7 year contract meant he wasn't sacked, now it seems he's back on track. I'm not saying that would have happened for Flicker but it's a general pattern. There was a piece in the Economist I read once where someone had statistically analysed the post new manager bounce that seems to happen. Their conclusion was that the new manager almost didn't come into it and that a team would always pull out of a slump after say 3 months of bad results, it was just that normally a manager would run out of time. Again I'm not sure I agree with that entirely or in all cases but it makes you think.
