....can't wait....it will be brill....all those exciting things from yesteryear barnsley.

oops sorry i must have been daydreaming then.................... what a complete waste of cash....which fool came up with that jaffa of an idea?....... and which even bigger plank gave it the go ahead.....though i suspect somebody's pocket will be bulging after that decision.

utter waste in such times of austerity.

    What's the issue?

Serious question. Have I missed something? Is it costing the tax payer a lot or something?

Our family has donated boxes of stuff, and I assume a lot of other stuff has been acquired without cost.

Aside from any cost, the principle of a museum can't be that controversial..... Kids in the chronicle this week don't even know what coal is. I for one would like my kids to know about the history of the region, even if it includes deedar land where they live.

Personally I`m looking forward to seeing Dorothy Hyman`s Commonwealth gold medals, Olympic silver and bronze and European Championship gold, silver and bronze along with her plaque for winning the BBC sports personality of the year 1963.

    Just a lass from Cudworth.

    Re: What's the issue?

Quite a bit of the "set-up" monies are from the lottery - which IS taxpayers money. I wonder how much of this was spent on cleaning the building; fitting new windows and fitting a new heating system.

Additionally, it is puzzling when we already have Civic Hall; Cooper Gallery; Cannon Hall and Elsecar Heritage - all of which seem to be constantly under threat of funding cuts.

Where are they going to find the funding to RUN the museum in the long term when all of these other facilities are under threat?

My feelings are that this whole project is a smokescreen for refurbishing the Town Hall.

So when you die there wont be queues forming around the Town Hall just to learn about thereev`s most humble beginnings before going on to stardom and the record breaking 6 odds on selections in a row which kept you in the lap of luxury.

Not so memorable as you think then cocker.

Read in some paper around £3.8m on the museum and £6m as a whole spent on Town Hall inc museum.

But dont quote me on that.

    Re: What's the issue?

Plus how many million to shift the council employees out to brand new buildings.

Seems like a massive white elephant to me. The town centre is a **** hole, thousands are unemployed and the council spends millions turning the town hall into a museum.

I`m quite happy in this thread without being too serious, and the subject of the council cant be covered in a week nevermind tonight, but if you think the town centre is a ****hole then I suggest you keep away or invest in some galloshes.
