my dad gave me a newspaper cutting from when we won the FA cup in 1912. One line in the article has been imprinted on my mind ever since and it said: 'for the first (and the last) time in their history, Barnsley were presented with the FA Cup' This season I dared to dream that the article was wrong, that we could, against all the odds, win the cup again. Sunday was our chance and probably the last chaNce in my lifetime to prove everyone worng and I can't tell you how gutted I was at the end. I tried to explain this to my other half about what it meant to me and thousands others but she didn't understand. Sunday started as the best day i've had supporting barnsley (possibly with the Bradford game excepted) and in 90 minutes had ended up the worst. Yesterday on the way to work I listened to Radio Sheffield and they had clips from the commentary. I cried my heart out when Odejayi missed and then when they said 'the journey ends here folks'. But........... Looking back, I'm proud of all the lads for what they have done in the cup. All of them gave 100%. Some played better than others but none went hiding and at the end of the day if we had a little bit of luck like we had against Liverpool and Chelsea then maybe we could have won it. Now lets move on and support the lads to make sure we stay up this season and build from here. Give Davey time to build a team (please bring in a goalscorer in the summer!!!) to cement our position in this league and kick on from there. I still love Barnsley and always will, no matter what happens. For the FA cup team of 2007-2008, thanks for some great memories and making me so proud. Now come on and get behind them. YOU REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And thats what its all about...at the start of the season how many reds supporters went down to ladbrokes and put hard earned cash on the reds either getting promotion or winning the cup.... I backed them for promotion cos i expect them eventually to get back into the premiership... I dream of us winning the cup.. what ever anyone says we have had some great times this season and have ben left with memories that thousands of other teams supporters would die for...beating Liverpool...beating Chelsea... and which ever WAY YOU LOOK AT IT as a second division team....in old money thats what we are..getting to the semi finals was remarkable....keep the faith stop moaning.... if we go down so what..... by November of next year and we ARE 10 POINTS CLEAR and looking to go unbeaten through the season... we will all be happy..... i`m Barnsley till I die.... I`ve been to wembley with them...I always was proud to say I support Barnsley.... but Sunday was special and the lads made an old man very happy even with the tears at the end watching the lads on the pitch having given all......KEEP THE FAITH the good times will return..
