be 20 years before it gets here,, according to radio dee darr earlier tonight. They used to be a station at stairfoot
Re: be 20 years before it gets here,, according to radio dee darr earlier tonight. early reports suggest it'll follow pretty much the old line from Sheffield via Cudworth and on to Leeds.
Re: be 20 years before it gets here,, according to radio dee darr earlier tonight. maybe old cudworth bridge station
Re: be 20 years before it gets here,, according to radio dee darr earlier tonight. Just in time for hover cars to render it redundant.
Re: be 20 years before it gets here,, according to radio dee darr earlier tonight. That's if they ever extend it from Birmingham. It's supposed to be extended to Manchester and also to Leeds via Sheffield. Can't see why they don't start work on it all at the same time. It's a ridiculous decision, going to take far too long to build. They'd be better off improving existing track so they can run faster trains and getting new rolling stock.
Re: be 20 years before it gets here,, according to radio dee darr earlier tonight. I'm with you on that - surely the workmen from all areas started at the same time, it could be done a hell of a lot quicker. I do think that, due to the massive time frame it's also likely to be redundant by the time it's actually available to the public.
It'll not be redundant. Oil will become unaffordable in the near future and eventually run out. With growing populations there's no room to grow enough crops to be turned into fuel meaning travelling by plane won't be an option and cars will become a rich play thing again. So the already choking rail network will be even more at breaking point, new forms of transport have to be invested in. Road and rail upgrades aren't an option. High Speed Rail isn't just about cutting 30 minutes off travel times, it's the future of mass transport when oil runs out.
It's hardly the future of mass transport if it's only linking London to Manchester and Leeds. What about the rest of the country? The whole rail network needs to be overhauled, people need quicker and cheaper (and better) links within their own regions. Why is the need for London to Leeds? It just further centralises business in London, allowing people to get there quicker, what about more teleworking, working from home, telephone and video conferencing.
Abandon the urban conurbations of the north, eventualy they will all becaome districts of London. Not everyone can live in the south
No it's not just linking Leeds, Manchester to London. It's linking Europe to whole areas of the UK. You'll be able to shift people and goods from all over Europe straight to the UK on the same train faster than planes, boats and lorries. Not every town has an airport, these HS train stations will become the new airports integrating with localised public transport. You try teleworking a box of fruit from Spain to Manchester, or some steel from Sheffield to Germany. It's more than just trains for commuters getting then to work a bit faster. The world is a changing place, countries have to adopt, it's a great thing for the UK.
It's bound to fail then... ...all the copper cables 'll keep gerrin nicked as it passes through t' Dearne Valley.
London is keeping the UK afloat. Keep London booming, whilst maintaining a focus on the rest of the UK at the same time, and the UK will come out of this in a much better position.
