He is tired of life. I just made that up. Another cracking day watching the Reds win in the capital. As a provincial northerner I can't help loving a day out in London and it's one that we never miss. We found a cracking pub called the Kings Arms near Waterloo and met some really friendly West Ham fans and a good chat with them. Onto Griffin Park and it's the first time I've been since 2006 when we lost 3-1 under Andy Ritchie. It was uncovered terracing behind the other goal at this time. There was a really good atmosphere on the terrace and I didn't see any of the ****tish behaviour that is becoming commonplace these days. Bumped into Thrappo Tyke who ended up stood behind me and always a pleasure to see him. The performance itself I can only describe as professional. We did exactly what we needed to do. I would have taken a point to stop the run of recent defeats and I think the clean sheet was the most important thing. We were organised and disciplined and I think every player worked hard for the team. It wasn't a game full of chances but with the strikers we have I think we are capable of nicking a goal, even if some would question Winnall's conversion rate. For some reason some parts of the game are a bit hazy but if we keep putting in performances like that I think we will finish about where we are now. After the game we went back to the King's Head and our mates the West Ham fans were there and in good spirits after their late winner against Sunderland. I know London is full of good pubs but I would recommend this place. Dint get home until half ten so a long day but well worth it. When do tickets for Fulham go on sale?!
For all its critics, there's just something about London that makes it a bit different. I've not had an afternoon out there before the football, but what I think I like is that you're literally a short journey away from wherever you want to be on the tube. As for the performance, there's obviously going to be games in this league where we're going to be outclassed, and even more when we'll be the underdog. If we act in a professional manner, there's no reason why we can't keep consistently picking up points and get to the 60 point mark. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." — Samuel Johnson
Did you seen the old man outside the seaman's mission, Memory fading like the medal ribbons that he wears. In that winter city the rain cries a little pity For one more forgotten hero and a world that doesn't care. Ralph McTell
I haven't been in a better city than London All the hype about New York - and all the time there I was comparing it to London London is more attractive to look at, more cosmopolitan, more fashionable, has loads of cafes and pubs - and the people on the streets and subways seem to be much more better looking New York is like a huge lego set with tall mostly ugly buildings
I love London. Third favorite city behind Tokyo and Seoul. Could spend days walking the streets of London.
I love the museums and art galleries, Crystal & Laura love the theatres. But city life isn't for me. I know and appreciate that others excel and thrive there. I just prefer the peace and quiet of the countryside, that's all.
I do spend days walking the streets of London ;-) Just discovered a series of books called "hidden london" that have walks around various areas. I come into London Bridge Station most days and followed the Borough Walk a few weeks ago. Visited the only original operating theatre predating anaesthetic, now a Museum. The founder of Guys hospitals private chapel. Blue plaque of samuel pepys. The only galleries bar where Shakespeare did many of his first performances and many street names giving a nod to Dickens inspiration. The original foundation of the Globe theatre, the only place in England that can sell wine and not have a license (under Queen Victorias personal behest) and much much more. And that was just one tiny bit of the Southwark walk that went for about 4 miles. Fabulous city and one I always miss after being away from it for a few days.
We used to go every year at chrimbo before our young un was born. When she is old enough (only 4 at the mo) we will in no doubt be going down with her to see the sights and sounds (and smells).
London away days are always the best but I always get the feeling when on the train back that I'm glad to be on my way home. Couldnt live down there, a day is more than enough for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
