People find this a bit strange coz i say the county rather than the actual village, reason being, nobody has hardly ever heard of Swinton. And i refuse to say Rotherham, coz quite simply that does not appear on my address, its Swinton/Mexborough.

You see it gets a bit complicated,so i just name the county, and this leads people into thinking that us Yorkshire folk are territorial, because rather than say the whole county, you add the South bit in just so there can be no confusion with our north, west and east neighbours.

Since i've moved to Toon it gets more complicated. Typical transcript from a night out

    "Where you from"

    "I live here"

    "No you don't"

    "Yes i do"

    "That's not a local accent"

"I know i'm originally from (wait for it) South Yorkshire"

    "What you doing here"

    "I work here"

    "Where about's"

    "An Architects"

    (Raised eyebrows) "Where you living"

    "Quayside"

    "Posh *******"

    "Thanks have a good night"
