I'm sorry but why? Yes he's gone on to be world class and he obviously did well with us, but theirs players who have done much better FOR the club while they were HERE. Putting Winnall in there is a bit of a joke too, even if he didn't go to that club.
Admittedly I've only been going to Oakwell for about 23 years, but in that time it d difficult to argue that we've had a more clinical striker than Sam Winnall. His overall game wasn't the greatest but you can't deny that when he was in the mood, he knew where the net was. I firmly believe that had he not got injured in his 1st season here, or orchestrated a transfer in his 3rd, then he'd have scored 20 goals in each of his seasons with us. How far back are you going to find another striker who had that sort of return for us. It takes a generation for a club like ours to find a 20 goal striker. It could take another generation to find another. Sent from space using satellites and things
Stones just like a number of others were good for us but not here long enough to be anywhere near best 11s. Winnall did alright last season reaching 20 goals, but his goals to chances ratio wasn't as good as it could have been. He could have pissed 30 goals last season.
People forget that back in the day players stuck around a lot longer. Hence Mick McCarthy was the finished article when he left for City. Stones was still a kid when he went to Everton & still isn't the finished article now, although he's a hell of a talent & one we can be proud of.
The weird thing with winnall is that actually he wasn't that clinical at all. He missed chance after chance after chance. His skill really wasn't in being a clinical striker, it was that he has an extraordinary ability to put himself in the right position to receive so many chances
I saw the post by the club & replied & included Stones simply because it said the 'best team'. To me he was our best RB during that period. He may have only played roughly 25 times but he was a level above anyone else in that role. If it was a club legends XI or a favourite players XI then I would've chose Bobby Hassell instead & I would've had Foster over Shackell at centre back etc. O'Grady for me was a better striker than Winnall, can play up top alone or in a two, wasn't far behind Winnall in terms of goals despite playing in a much weaker team & has much better hold up play.
