like andy gray for us and berbatov for man utd they had in there contracts that they had the option of extending there contracts for an extra year, cant this work the other way where a club signs a player for a year BUT the club has the option of extending that by an additional 12 months if they wish? not sure if they can but if they could wish barnsley would do this then we wouldnt have had the vaz te issue and possibly Mido if comes january hes he banging them in for us

What does "option for another year" actually mean? DOes it mean the club get exclusivity?

andy gray start of last year his contract ended but he had it in his contract that HE had the option to extend that contract by a further 12 months, berbatov had the same, so i was asking if the clubs had the rite to do the same when they sign a player so they can sign someone on a 12 month contract, if hes crap .... release him .... if hes good, extend his contract

Blackpool had one with Charlie Adam, meant they got a decent fee from Liverpool instead of him leaving for nowt.

    thing is Barry.

we woulda been holding back Vaz Te and he couldathen jut gone on the pitch and stood on the center spot, do you get my drift. If we get players in like Vaz Te and now Mido ,and get a good amount from them then thats not a bad way.after all we paid nowt for Vaz Te or Mido.So no matter what we got for Vaz Te or Mido in the future then surely this is shrewd business.

You can put whatever you want in the contract, providing both parties agree. I am sure that some contracts have had that clause in it before, usually works both ways I think.
