Don't think we're any better off in all honesty. To be fair they probably have less of a financial deficit to fill than us. Apathy in the stands seems about the same. Watched some of their game last night and I doubt there were even 5k there even though gate was given at nearly 8k.
My wife just forwarded me this, which seems apposite: "When you think there's no hope left, remember the lobsters in the tank at the Titanic's restaurant." Edit: I see people are busily debunking this on the internet, which is probably funnier than the actual joke.
Lol they've got a squad full of experience aswell. Can't imagine there wage bill been cheap and steve Evans will be on a few quid. And at least we have a few assets, Phillips and dkd.
Yeah, I agree about DKD and Phillips to be fair. I doubt Stewart is having to put £8m plus a year in to sustain them though. Let’s just say we’re both in a bad place right now….
yeah, they signed 2 defenders from Portsmouth who played all last season in their promotion side, they were free, but I bet they're on a good wack, same for Clarke-Harris, bet he's on a good wedge there too. Speaking to a Rotherham fan last week, he's stopped going, says they all hate the owner and obviously can't stand Steve Evans, seems like they're more disillusioned then us tbh.
I'd argue they have a better balanced squad with more depth but don't have the quality that Phillips and DKD offer us. They hate the owner but at least he's local and doesn't seem to hide away. I assume Evans will get the push at the end of the season and it wouldn't surprise me if they went back for Warne again to rekindle fan interest.
I'm not sure about that D. Latest update shows this In the latest accounts of Rotherham-based manufacturing firm, ASD Lighting PLC, Rotherham United Football Club is listed as a debtor owing £5.2m. Tony Stewarts firm btw. Not equity but debt. Tbf he does sponsor the club at £1m a year as well.
Fair point P. I doubt very much that Stewart would call in that debt though but you never know I suppose. I’m no financial wizard at all (far from it) but surely our owners can’t keep supporting the club by redistribution of shares? Still baffled how we need £8m a year putting in.
I know none of us are in the running, but the bookies actually think Rotherham & Mansfield have a better chance of promotion than us. That’s pretty bad when you consider Mansfield are 8 points behind us and have only won 1 in 15 (?). https://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-1/english-league-one/promotion
Is it really £8 million a year though. Sure I read on here by one of our more ‘financially orientated’ posters that the year in question included the 3 million paid to the Council for their share of the club or summert. The wage bill ( even with our bloated squad) will be shrinking year on year.
