yes but we were a "big club" then...

....needed x amount of car parking for all the "full houses".

a bit of realism rearding the situation were in, imho

We dont owe Sterling Consortium £6million now tho

and for the record, Ive been saying for a while that the land around the club should be built on. I'd prefer a casino mesen, but affordable housing with some cash to redevelop the ground sounds like a decent compromise.

we should have done this as soon as we went into admin...

...but not doing it has allowed us to sell it now and then plough it into the future, compared to paying off the debts

My concern is that seeing as BMBC own half, if all the profits are put into the stadium, there'll be hell on.

The club doesn't own any of the land. None of it

It's owned by the council and private investors. How on earth does selling it benefit the club?

    I agree

Surely a casino that was owned by the club would mean a continued revenue, rather than one lump sum, redevelop a stand and it's gone! initial funds for building would be required but PC could see it as a personal investment rather than losing money on the club which he currently is. I thought we were in for the long term!

Barnsley FC don't own that land. It was taken from us.

It's now getting sold off after the club has owned it for years and people are cheering them on.

How can there be anything in it for our club when our club doesn't own the land?

I'm taking a leap of faith

based on the fact that Gordon Shepherd has said the money will be used to redevelop the West Stand and other facilities. he's said that, its in black and white. it would be a very foolish move to go back on that. as for the double standards re Doyle, I think his motives were different, more aligned with paying off an extortionate debt to Sterling than benefitting the football club and community.

worst case scenario is the money is paid back to Patrick Cryne for what he's put in. in this case, I'd be disappointed, but at least that card cant be played again, the one where we've been saved from going out of business (ffs!) by someone. and start to think in terms of standing on own 2 feet.

    What's the difference between

paying back Mr Cryne and paying back The Sterling Consortium?

I'm not saying we should have ever expected Mr Cryne to shell out loads of brass. I'm just asking what the difference is.

Again, I could be very naive

but I dont think Mr Cryne is intending on charging interest on his lending. I cant remember the exact details of Sterling, but my vague recollection is that they lent PD £3 million and early repayment meant we paid them back double, wasnt it? the money that is funding recent signings (no comment on the quality of them) I am guessing is coming from Cryne, and that pattern suggests he would be supportive financially again in the future, should we need him. Sterling are nothing but predators. Mr Cryne, again I'm sumising, wouldnt be prepared to see the club close if he doesnt get paid in full.

I watched my first ever game in the West Stand 28 years ago. it hasnt changed much since. as much as I long for the old days to return, even I have a problem with the bogs over there!

How much would a spanky new stand to match the others cost?
Would we be able to get any grants or anything?

Just wondering whether improvements could mean replacing, or whether it means putting a roof on the toilets?

He's a director in Oakwell Community Assets Ltd

Which, according to The Chronicle, is the company that submitted the planning application.
