500 should be more than enough and i would like us to have half a dozen overs tonight at them if Freddy can get a quick 20 odd with Prior.
Strauss won't. I'd bat for remainder of tonight. Even possibly hour in morning at get at the before lunch. If we can't get them out in over 5 sessions including any weather we should declare from the series. What is forecast like? If bad I'd declare this evening. 478 lead now.
just to add we want to avoid any possibilty of them knocking off the runs. So need 500+ I think to make sure they try and defend for 5 sessions which should be extremely difficult. Got a ticket now for the Sunday at Headingley. A win here would mean we would still be in the series by that point which would be great to know!
I'm no cricket fan. Why don't they just keep batting until they are actually 'out'? Is there any advantage to getting like, 1000 runs? S)
could be argued that if we cant defend a lead of 500 we should not be out there either,a fired up Freddy giving them some chin music tonight might just get get us an early break through and really knock the spirit out of them.
i'd bat 2nite and 1 over in morning and **** wi them. if we put them in 2nite they might get offered bad light
RE: I'm no cricket fan. For a start they need to leave themselves enough time to bowl the Aussies out. Would be idiotic to bat for too long and accumulate a bigger lead than necessary and then lose playing time unexpectedly to the weather. We're almost at the end of the third day of the allotted five.
Agreed I would go one step further. Bat to the end today, then bat for 1 ball tomorrow morning then declare. Just to make them get all their fielding kit on only to have to take it all off again.
196 overs possible. Less than 4 an over for Aussies to knockoff. Freddie will be told to go hell for leather (get a nice half century in final Lords test) so will Broad we will end up with 600 lead and put them in hour before lunch. With rain likely will get a day and a half hopefully to get the wickets.
We should have more than enough with 521 on the board and we need to get them in first thing in the morning with anything possible with the weather. If this was England chasing 521 i would not even consider the possibility of winning.
RE: Agreed Bat in the morning like its a 20/20 game then declare just before midday, we should tell freddie to just go out and go for it. If we can get another 80 runs then brilliant if we get bowled out then it doesn't matter.
